Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind TLC provides Residential and Creative Arts Programs for adults and children with disabilities in the San Fernando Valley. Mr. & Mrs.

From fine arts and music to dance and beyond, our programs are built around creativity, community, and belonging. Therapeutic Living & Learning Centers (TLC) was founded by Bernice and Seymour Pearlman in 1975 at a time when programs and services for their multi-disabled blind son were nonexistent. Pearlman, along with a small group of other families, were determined that the status quo could not continue. Through their diligence and determination they made it happen by personally signing the note on TLC's first home. The mission of TLC is to provide for the lifetime needs of individuals with multiple-disabilities and blindness.

Let's go Dodgers! βšΎπŸ’™

Several of our TLC residents and participants recently headed to Dodger Stadium for an unforgettable day at the ballpark. From the roar of the crowd and the excitement of every inning to classic Dodger Stadium snacks and the electric atmosphere, the group had an absolute blast.

Representing TLC on the field were Brian from Kronenthal House, Randy, John, Nick, and David from Devonshire House, and Stephanie, Jill, and Judy from Elkwood House. Smiles, laughter, and team spirit filled the day from first pitch to last out.

A huge thank you to our dedicated Direct Support Professionals who made the day safe, smooth, and unforgettable.

Experiences like these are about so much more than baseball. They are about community, friendship, and creating memories that last. πŸ’™ Read more about community outings at TLC: tlc4blind.org/tlcs-community-outings-bring-learning-to-life/

We are excited to share that Therapeutic Living and Learning Centers is a recipient of a Capital Improvements Grant from the Perenchio Foundation! πŸŽπŸ’™

This funding is supporting essential upgrades to our Black Box Theater, including brand new retractable seating, strengthening our ability to deliver artistic excellence to our community in Reseda and across the San Fernando Valley.

The Perenchio Foundation is a private foundation established by the late A. Jerrold β€œJerry” Perenchio. The foundation believes that arts play an essential role in building more equitable, culturally vibrant, and inclusive communities, and is guided by a commitment to create a positive, lasting impact in the Los Angeles region through the arts. Today is World Mental Health Day and at TLC, we believe the arts are one of the most powerful tools for supporting mental well-being. πŸ’™πŸŽ¨

Whether it is painting, dancing, playing an instrument, tending a garden, or simply creating something with your hands, the act of making something has the power to reduce stress, build confidence, and foster connection.

For the individuals in our Creative Arts Day Program and Children's Creative Arts After School Program, that is not just a theory. It is something we see every single day.

Mental health matters for everyone. Today and every day, we are committed to creating spaces where individuals of all abilities can express themselves, find community, and thrive. πŸ’›

A day well spent at Balboa Recreation Center. πŸ’βš½πŸ€βšΎ

Our Creative Arts Program participants recently headed out for an active and fun-filled outing at the inclusive playground, where they learned the fundamentals and safety rules of hockey, baseball, soccer, and basketball alongside their peers. The day wrapped up with lunch in the park and plenty of time outdoors with their instructors.

Outings like these are about so much more than recreation. They build confidence, encourage teamwork, and give participants the chance to try something new in a supportive and inclusive setting.

A huge thank you to Julio and Andrew for making the day safe, educational, and a whole lot of fun! πŸ’™

More than 25 community performances. A standing residency at senior living facilities. Rehearsals now five days a week.

The TLC Jazz Band did not get here by accident. πŸŽ΅πŸ’™

Spanning ages 25 to 71, our Jazz Band is proof of what TLC's Creative Arts Day Program can build when talent, structure, and dedication come together.

Under the direction of Music Director Jorge Luis Uzcategui, this group has grown from performing twice a year to taking the stage every two weeks for our CafΓ© Concerts and beyond.

As Jorge shares: "Music is such a transformational tool, in every way, spiritually, emotionally, and socially. Being able to learn to play music at a high level can transform anything about who you think you are as a person."

There is a lot more to TLC than what you see on your feed. πŸ“–πŸ’™

Our blog is where we go deeper, sharing the stories behind our programs, the journeys of our students and staff, and the everyday moments that make this community so special.

This month we are featuring a 21-year career journey, a residential aide who makes our Kronenthal House feel like home, and the Direct Support Professionals who show up every single day for our residents.
