The Wiseburn Unified School District Board has approved a yearlong partnership with Tzedek America for the 2026-27 school year.

This isn't a one-time assembly. It's a sustained, scaffolded program built around long-term relationships — student assemblies, staff professional development, parent education, student leadership, and community engagement. All of it working together, over time, across an entire school community.

Because confronting antisemitism and other forms of bias shouldn't only happen after something harmful occurs. It should be woven into how a school community thinks and acts together every day.

We've worked with Wiseburn students before. We're proud to now go deeper.

Meet Hughie Stone Fish, Tzedek America's Director of In-School Programming.

Ask a room of teenagers what antisemitism looks like today, and you'll get a hundred uncertain answers. Hughie closes that gap — helping students understand hate and respond to it as upstanders, not bystanders.

Before joining Tzedek America, Hughie cofounded The Arts Project Syracuse, bringing arts education to under-resourced youth. He's an Emmy Award-winning songwriter whose content on Jewish identity and joy reaches millions online. He's led workshops in schools, camps, synagogues, and universities nationwide.

His sessions give students something that lasts well beyond a single assembly: the knowledge, courage, and confidence to show up differently when it counts.

After four and a half years, Randy Fried is stepping away from Tzedek America.

Ask anyone who has spent time with Randy and they will tell you the same thing: he has an uncanny ability to connect, with teenagers, with adults, with anyone willing to sit down and really listen.

On one of our Arizona immigration exploration trips, one of our students said it best. After Randy shared his own story, she said she finally felt like someone truly understood her.

That is the gift Randy brought to this work. Not just knowledge, not just facilitation skill, but the willingness to be fully present and fully honest with the people in front of him.

Randy, thank you for four and a half years of showing up exactly like that. We wish you well in whatever comes next, and we look forward to staying friends for a long time to come.

Water bottles. Granola bars. Toothbrushes. Band-aids. Pens.
This student didn't ask her guests to donate money. She researched exactly what was needed, sourced every item, organized a presentation, and stood at a microphone to explain why it mattered.
That kind of ownership doesn't happen by accident. It happens when a young person is guided to connect their Torah portion to a cause they actually believe in — and then trusted to lead.

Gloves on. Sleeves rolled up. Showing up.
This student didn't just write a check or collect canned goods at the door. They got into the warehouse and did the work — sorting, packing, and putting in hours alongside people who do this every day.
Tzedek America prepares each B'nai Mitzvah student to understand not just what their cause is, but why it matters, who it affects, and what Jewish values call them to do about it.
This is what that preparation produces.

This is what Mitzvah Project Central looks like in action.
This student studied their Torah portion with Tzedek America, found the issue that moved them, and then did something about it. They showed up — in person, with supplies, to an organization serving a community they had learned about and come to care about.
That's the difference between a project and a practice.
Tzedek America works with hundreds of B'nai Mitzvah students each year, helping them connect their Torah portion to a cause, identify the values driving that cause, and take meaningful action rooted in Jewish tradition.
Because Tikkun Olam isn't a checkbox. It's a way of living.

Yuri and her family were forced to flee violence and persecution in Colombia in search of safety and a chance to rebuild their lives. She shared her story with our group. Her fear, her courage, her resilience, and the long journey of creating a new beginning.

Max listened and engaged.

In the center is Eddie Chavez Calderon, Tzedek America's Educator in Residence and one of the most gifted empathy trainers working in Jewish education today. Eddie creates the conditions for exactly this kind of moment — where a teenager and a survivor find each other across a room and something real happens between them.
Look at their faces. That's not a classroom exercise. That's a human being changed by another human being's story.
This is what Tzedek America designs for.
