Another day reaching out to our brothers and sisters who are homeless. Here are the names I’ve met today, Hajibana, John, Raymond, Lucky, Bryan, Fabiano, Juan, DJ, Amanda, John, Jerry. I have prepared 31 food bags and 3 boxes of clothes for men and women. Returned back home almost empty only a few clothes left.

Today’s outreach, 14 subs sandwiches, 12 boxes of chocolate chips cookies, 6 boxes of yogurt, water, shoes and chips. Enrique one of the homeless dude from Venezuela, who speaks only Spanish (in the picture with me) was very happy to see me and was able to get a pair of shoes donated by Manny O., one of the best supporters to this cause. Enrique arrived 5 months ago in the US and from the start he has been living on the sidewalk of Hollywood Blvd. He is considering to go to New York soon since a shelter run by a church is offering him to process his work permit and in the process he can stay in the shelter too. So happy of this development.

Story Time

Last Saturday January 13 while handing food for the homeless on foot with my duffel bag I need to go back and forth to my van to get more supplies. As I was walking I saw this vato half naked, shirtless and was not bothered at all of this Californian cold weather. I saw him just chilling near the sidewalk somewhat restless. He looked like a Latino dude, skinhead, and his face was full of like red insect bites. He walked like a gangster with loose, baggy pants. After I finished handing out food I decided to ask this guy if he would like to have something to wear? I have gathered these past weeks some warm clothes even new ones, sweater with a hoodie, cardigan and etc. I was doubting if he was homeless or just spending time in the park. I am now careful of judging people if they are homeless or not because I made twice that mistake and having asked people if they needed food but they were not homeless. This time I was in doubt but I just threw him a question if he would like to have warm clothes to wear? He replied to me you know what I would like to have sweaters from Dickies a brand name. My thoughts was this guy must be picky and couldn’t resist I burst out laughing. Right after he said “ I’m sorry I’m just messing around. I would appreciate whatever you can give me. So I went into my car and grabbed a bag full of men’s clothes and showed him some stuff and he pulled a cardigan and I told him to take the hoodie too.Right away he put on the cardigan and the hoodie. They look great and fit perfectly on him. I was caught by surprise when he pulled me and did the bear hug. I did not see that coming and he said I appreciate you many times pointing on me. Before I left him I asked his name and he said Isaiah and we bid goodbye.

For documentation purposes. Victoria a homeless lady in Hollywood whom I know for 5 months now was happy to receive these donated items. For those who want to donate items I accept used clothing and etc. for the homeless.
