The Ukrainian Culture Center was invited by the Liberty Sculpture Park Foundation to the unveiling of a sculpture honoring Ukrainian defenders at Liberty Sculpture Park located in Yermo, CA just off Interstate 15 east of Barstow.

The Liberty Sculpture Park Foundation is a group of activists committed to fighting for freedom in China from the Communist regime and have found a kinship with Ukraine’s own fight for liberty.

Most of the sculptures in the park depict Chinese themes such as “64” which symbolizes the Tianenmen Square Massacre (June 4, 1989 hence 64), ‘virus head’ a play on words that the Communists are the true virus, etc.

The Ukraine sculpture depicts three Ukrainian defenders, one holding a child on a pile of rubble, steadfast and strong. World renown sculptor Chen Weiming helmed this project.

While promotion for this was a bit last minute, I encourage the Ukrainian community to check it out whether on the way to Vegas or make it a day trip. This may be the first monument in the US dedicated to the current Ukrainian-Russian fwar and should become a pilgrimage site once Ukraine achieves final victory.

I want to thank Jerry, Chen and the LSP community for this amazing project but also the warm welcome and kinship in our mutual fight for freedom and democracy.

Slava Ukraini!🇺🇦

More than a concert!

Founded in Ukraine in 1918, the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America survived political repression, war, forced labor camps, and years of displacement before rebuilding its home in North America. For over a century, it has preserved and shared the music, history, and cultural memory of Ukraine through the sound of the bandura, Ukraine’s iconic multi-stringed instrument.
This award-winning ensemble, recently honored with the 2025 National Heritage Fellowship, the highest recognition for traditional arts in the United States, continues its mission today while supporting humanitarian aid efforts for Ukraine.

Join us for an evening of music, history, and cultural resilience. 🇺🇦
