✨And just like that, another week of school is in the books!

The energy across Partnership schools is strong! Over the past two weeks, school leaders, teachers, and students have jumped into new routines, explored new content, built connections, and brought excitement into classrooms.

For our students, the start of a new school year means reconnecting with old friends, making new ones, moving up to the next grade, and getting to know the teachers who will help make this year one to remember. We’re proud of the strong start and can’t wait to see what our students and school communities accomplish together this year. Here’s to an amazing year ahead!🎉

We're proud to see our work highlighted in the new case study from Columbia University's Center for Public Research and Leadership on LAUSD's math transformation. What began with the Partnership's early pilot of high-quality math curriculum in 2015 helped inform a broader districtwide effort, demonstrating how strong partnerships can drive lasting systems change.

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) was between formal textbook adoption cycles, but student math scores suggested an urgent need for new materials. So the district did something unusual: it built conditions for change to become desirable, and then let schools opt in.

The report celebrates LAUSD's progress, and we're honored that it also recognizes the Partnership's role in helping lay the foundation for this work and includes insights from our VP of Curriculum Systems Advising, Diana Mosha. Read the report: All Systems Go: LAUSD Case Study here: https://www.itsallsystemsgo.org/lausd

Huge thanks to the Gates Foundation, the Center for Public Research and Leadership, the Los Angeles Unified School District, Illustrative Mathematics, and Leading Educators for your contributions and support.

Last week, we kicked off the new school year by welcoming instructional leadership teams (ILT) from all 20 Partnership schools to our annual three-day Summer Institute! Together, our ILTs collaborated on their CTA goals, shared strategies, and engaged in thoughtful discussions about how to best support students and educators. Our co-founder and vice-chair of the Partnership Board of Directors, Melanie Lundquist, also stopped by to converse with and show support for our ILT members. We’re excited to begin the year united in our commitment to creating school communities where everyone feels a strong sense of belonging and has access to a high-quality education.

Two weeks ago, we welcomed the newest educators to our network for a three-day New Teacher Orientation! From first-year teachers to more seasoned educators, they brought incredible energy, curiosity, and a deep commitment to learning that will shine through for our students this fall.

Together, we explored relationship-building, classroom culture, social justice in education, and connected with the communities they will serve. We can't wait to support these educators throughout the year and watch them grow in their profession as they teach students and create environments that make students feel seen, supported, and challenged.

📣 We're hiring at one of our schools! Edwin Markham Middle School, located in Watts, is looking for a credentialed math teacher. This position is eligible for up to $5,000 in paid time in addition to regular school hours! ✨

Two weeks ago, we held our New Teacher Orientation and spent three days in schools, diving into curriculum, classroom setup, school culture, and a day in the neighborhoods where our teachers will be teaching.

Here's what teachers had to say about their experience last week:

🍎 "Understanding the robust community network of Watts is foundational to my approach. It will actively inform my classroom environment, guide my daily instruction, and deeply strengthen how I communicate with families."

🍎 "Our students deserve teachers who start the year already knowing the strengths and the history of Watts, not teachers meeting it for the first time in September."

‼️ Now we need one more person for our team of educators serving Markham and our Watts schools.‼️

If you're a math teacher who wants to teach in a school that invests in its educators and its neighborhood, please apply here: https://partnershipforlosangelesschools.applytojob.com/apply/ljdNshcikR/202627-Teacher-Application-All-Grade-Levels

The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is looking for courageous and mission-driven teachers who inspire all students to see and realize their own brilliance.

Today, we welcomed Katy Reiter as the new principal of Edwin Markham Middle School ().🎉📣

Formerly, Principal Reiter made an incredible impact across the Partnership. From supporting our middle schools and leading science initiatives to serving as an assistant principal at Santee Education Complex and most recently as our administrator of school supports, Ms. Reiter has brought joy, dedication, and an unwavering belief in our students to every role she's held.

We look forward to all she will accomplish at Markham with students, educators, staff, and families in the new school year.⭐
