Goodbye dear friend

From Alfred Fraijo Jr., chairman of the Friends of the Hollywood Central Park board of directors

The world lost a Hollywood star on Monday. We are saddened to announce that Laurie Goldman, founder and President of the Friends of the Hollywood Central Park, passed away on Monday morning, September 11, after a brief illness.

Laurie was a force of nature and had an irrepressible spirit. Best of all, she loved Los Angeles and Hollywood and was its best and most fervent booster. The Park, like all her endeavors, represented her love of community and people. She was a dreamer and a leader. We will miss her terribly.

And while it is inconceivable at this moment how we can carry on without her, we know that we must. Hollywood Central Park was her passion, and it is now up to us to see Laurie’s dream through to reality.

A public memorial will be scheduled in the near future so that we can properly honor Laurie.

And to remind you of what started it all...

In Congress, July 4, 1776

Sometimes we need to step back and have a look to really appreciate what certain holidays represent. Memorial Day is one such day.

Memorial Day is a holiday in the United States to honor and mourn the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Today is Earth Day! This day invites us to come together to build a bright future for our planet.

Friends of the Hollywood Central Park is honored to be building a coalition of supporters across Los Angeles who care about making our city more livable and greener. We are determined to move forward with our commitment to create the Hollywood Central Park, a people-centric infrastructure project based on resilience, curbing the climate crisis and environmental and social justice. We know that the scale and complexity of big goals like this take time. However, we can create the change we hope for because of your support, dedication, and commitment.

We, of the Friends of the Hollywood Central Park, want to say, "Thank you to all those who have served."
Veterans Day started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country's service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to "Veterans Day" in order to account for all veterans in all wars.
