Thai CDC is proud to have tabled at in Echo Park recently. Our community partner, CicLAvia is an open-streets movement in Los Angeles County that temporarily closes city streets to motorized traffic so people can walk, bike, skate, and socialize in the public right-of-way. We shared workers' rights pamphlets and heard back from community members about what they want from LA's transportation systems as part of our ACCESS LA (Advancing Community-Centered & Environmentally Sustainable Solutions in LA) project. Our community partner, TRUST South LA also surveyed with us. Here's to making Los Angeles a more walkable, transit-oriented city!

Thai CDC was proud to be present for this important milestone in Los Angeles’ efforts to expand affordable housing. With more than 10,000 affordable housing units built and nearly 50,000 more in the pipeline, we celebrate continued progress toward ensuring that families, seniors, workers, and all Angelenos have access to safe, affordable homes in the communities they call home.

Thai CDC was honored to welcome Honorable Sompop Sermswatsri, Consul-General of Thailand to Los Angeles! Our team shared an overview of Thai CDC’s programs, including community economic development, immigration and legal services, workers’ rights, affordable housing, small business support, public health, environmental sustainability, and policy advocacy. We look forward to building a strong relationship with the Royal Thai Consulate-General and continuing our shared commitment to supporting and empowering our communities. 🤝

"On a very bright and sunny day of Saturday, September 12th, 2026, Thai CDC Executive Director, Chancee Martorell, presented on the history of Thai CDC and Thai Town as well as provided a walking tour of Thai Town to a group of Torchbearers from the Go for Broke National Education Center (GBNEC).

As described by the GBNEC, 'Go For Broke' was the motto of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a segregated army unit comprised of Japanese Americans from Hawaiʻi and the continental United States. The term is slang for “all or nothing.” During a game of “craps” a player might wager all of his money on a single roll of the dice — putting everything on the line to win or lose. For the soldiers, “go for broke” meant that they would put everything on the line to win the war against the Germans in Europe and the war against racial prejudice at home.

Martorell was very honored to have been asked to talk to the Torchbearers about the needs and issues faced by economically disadvantaged Thais in Los Angeles and how Thai CDC has had to fight for equity and representation for an invisible and vulnerable community. Thai CDC also cherishes the over three-decade relationship with GFBNEC President and CEO, Dr. Mitch Maki, who was on the board of the Asian American Drug Abuse Program (AADAP) when Thai CDC was founded 32 years ago and was under the fiscal sponsorship of AADAP. Dr. Maki also met with the Thai workers from the El Monte Thai Garment Slavery Case after the case broke in 1995 when he was at the UCLA School of Social Welfare. When Thai CDC awarded AADAP with a Social Impact Award back in 1998, Dr. Maki accepted the award on behalf of AADAP. We are proud to continue our collaboration with Dr. Maki in this capacity as we support the GFBNEC core values of courage, humility, sacrifice, inclusion, patriotism and equality, as embodied by our Japanese American WWII soldiers.

Thai CDC participated in The People’s Resource Fair, hosted by the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights in LA (CHIRLA) in North Hills (San Fernando Valley). Through our efforts as part of the coalition, Thai CDC helped provide immigration legal consultations, wellness activities, and helpful resources to community members.
