TalNexus hopes that you are healthy, safe and in good spirits as our country and our friends around the world weather the current outbreak and measures in place during this time. Like you, we look forward to a speedy resolution and quick recovery so that we may come out of this, with a positive and renewed outlook.
If find yourself with more time to be creative, may we suggest you use this time to not only work on your existing projects, but to also explore what could be the beginning of the next great American novel, screenplay or series.
TalNexus believes that every great movie, novel or long form series must begin with a solid set of themes and characters, many of which are born out of ordinary people in extraordinary times.
Things being what they are, we hope you all are keeping a journal of what you are experiencing or observing in the world around you and what it may possibly inspire.
From the events unfolding daily in the news, to those developing in your own neighborhood or household, it is the storyteller who will preserve and recite the events of today. Not only tomorrow or next year, but centuries from now.
For better or worse, the fact is, there are more young people alive today who learned of The Battle of Thermopylae and the Persian Wars because of Zach Snyder's film based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, 300, than because of the history books collecting dust on library shelves or in Amazon's warehouses.
TalNexus encourages storytellers to find untold stories, stories that won't get told, stories that have been forgotten, and stories that deserve another perspective.
While you can always find places online that can help prime your creative pump, (a search for "writing prompts" will net you tons of places) we'd like you to take a look at moments throughout time - from way back then, through present day, and even a possible future and find that cinder of heat, that you can flame into a raging inferno of a tale.
We look forward to reconvening our programs, gatherings and workshops so that we may continue to support those of you committed to telling the stories that won't get told.
During this time we ask that you act in the spirit of our core values of individuality, compassion and innovation - keep yourself healthy and sharp, look our for each other and lend a hand, and treat the word impossible as motivation.
Finally, go have some fun. We know John Milius always did...
