13 Hands 13 Hands or ‘Tera’ Hands is an initiative to provide hygiene products to homeless communities. Each care package is currently $5 per kit.

We hope to improve the health and well-being of homeless communities by providing basic needs with dignity. We are especially committed to providing women with hygiene products that are often expensive and inaccessible. We are Sikhs from Los Angeles and our inspiration comes from the teachings of Guru Nanak, to help others in need. We are driven by the beliefs that everyone and everything is a man

ifestation of the Divine and that our hands are instruments to serve this beautiful creation and all of humanity. We are undertaking this project to help provide access to hygiene products, often expensive and inaccessible, that will improve the safety and health of homeless individuals. Our hygiene kits include soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, sanitary napkins, tampons and wipes. Last month, we distributed 150 hygiene care packages to women in downtown LA’s Skid Row. We hope to collect supplies and distribute hygiene care packages every month indefinitely and establish a nonprofit organization devoted to this cause. In addition, we hope to raise consciousness about issues that consume homeless communities including health and hygiene. Our current goal is to fund, collect, and distribute 100 hygiene care packages each month in homeless communities throughout Southern California. And we hope with everyone’s support we will be able to distribute 1000 packages each month at different shelters.

With the help of Sevadars and generous donations we had a successful fundraising campaign last year during Dasvandh Week for Tera Hands and we were able to reach our goal.

Some of our fellow "older" volunteers were giving a side eye to our young volunteers about giving out female hygiene bags out in open. I am glad Tera hands is trying to break this uncomfortable wall around periods/female hygiene. Talked about periods openly. It's a natural process. ....

Have you ever had to decide between two. It is a sad and unfortunate reality that shelters and other government assistance agencies do not provide women’s hygiene products. Therefore, many women have to make a choice between food for themselves and their families over hygiene products.

Tera hands is an initiative to help homeless women by providing hygiene bags which include sanitary napkins, tampons and wipes.
