Since 2015, Soroptimist International of Los Angeles (SILA) has presented Dream It Be It: Career Support for Girls, a program designed to help girls in secondary school who face obstacles to achieving their future goals. The program provides access to professional role models, career education, and valuable resources to help girls envision and pursue successful futures.

Soroptimist’s goal is to empower girls with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to overcome barriers and break cycles of poverty, violence, and abuse. Over the years, SILA has offered both one-day workshops and small-group mentoring sessions to support girls on their journey toward brighter futures.

In 2027, Soroptimist members will host a one-day Dream It Be It Girls Conference specifically for high school girls throughout the greater Los Angeles community. The conference will provide encouragement, career guidance, and opportunities to connect with positive role models. Special outreach will focus on girls in foster care and those receiving services through the Department of Children and Family Services.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Once a quarter, Soroptimists focus on an obstacle that women and girls face on their path to formal education and economic empowerment. Intimate partner violence is devastatingly common for women and girls around the globe.

Nearly 1 in 3 women will experience it during their lifetime, according to the World Health Organization.

Financial abuse occurs in 99% of domestic violence cases, where abusers control or sabotage their partner’s financial resources, according to the National Network to End Domestic Violence.

When women and girls are educated, they have the skills to command decent wages and the resources to escape unsafe relationships sooner.
