Today our movement leader spotlight shines on Skipp Townsend, Executive Director of 2nd Call, an organization that interrupts cycles of violence, heals trauma, and builds pathways out of gang life.

Recognized by the LA Times for his critical role as a peacemaker, Skipp models community-rooted leadership centered on healing, transformation, and justice. Under Skipp’s leadership, 2nd Call does deeply transformative work such as trauma-informed healing circles and life skills classes for formerly incarcerated people, parolees, and others who are often marginalized. One project that has inspired Skipp this year has been working with incarcerated youth: "We work with youth who have been separated from their family and friends by a system that puts them in a cycle of unwanted fights and retaliation. Centering these young people has become our chance to listen to the youth on what's best for them," Skipp said.

At Weingart Foundation, we believe in supporting grassroots leaders who are transforming harm into healing. 2nd Call’s holistic approach to violence interruption and re-entry aligns powerfully with our commitment to community-led solutions and long-term systems change.
