Today, Wellnest honors Juneteenth! A celebration of freedom, resilience, and the enduring contributions of Black communities. As we reflect on this important day in history, we also recognize the ongoing work to advance equity, justice, and access to mental health care for all. At Wellnest, we remain committed to creating inclusive spaces where children, youth, families, and Wellnest staff feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

We encourage our community to celebrate Juneteenth by learning more about its history, support Black-owned businesses, explore local cultural events, and engage in conversations that promote understanding, healing, and opportunity.

Please note that Wellnest offices are closed today in observance of Juneteenth. We wish everyone a meaningful day of reflection, celebration, and community.

We continue our Ask an Expert series with Dr. Anthony Durham, DPA, LCSW, Director of Intensive Services at Wellnest. For the past seven years, Anthony has worked to expand access to culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health care for young adults and families across Los Angeles.

In this feature, he shares insights on the barriers many youth face when seeking mental health support, including stigma, systemic inequities, financial stress, and a lack of culturally responsive care. 🧠💛

His advice for future mental health professionals? “Practice cultural humility, build authentic relationships within communities, and stay committed to lifelong learning and advocacy.”

Wellnest hosted “Healing in Harmony” a Conversation on Youth, Mental health and Healing.

Designed to elevate Wellnest as a trusted community resource and thought leader in emotional health and wellness, the event featured a panel discussion highlighting the importance of creating safe spaces, reducing stigma, and supporting the emotional well-being of young people.

The conversation was moderated by Denise Dador with ABC7 Eyewitness News and featured an impactful panel including:

Trinity Bailey, Co-Founder of Music Is Unity Foundation alongside her father, Philip Bailey, founding member of Earth, Wind & Fire

Brianna Betts, Co-Founder of50/50 Foundation with husband, LA Dodgers Markus Lynn, “Mookie” Betts

Charlene Dimas-Peinado, President & CEO of Wellnest

Conversations like this particularly during Mental Health Awareness and Foster Care awareness months help to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and foster care.
