A Window Between Worlds (AWBW)

A Window Between Worlds (AWBW) We believe art can be a catalyst to release trauma, build resilience, and ignite social change.

Since it's founding in 1991, A Window Between Worlds has partnered with over 800 direct service organizations and trained more than 5,000 Windows Facilitators, who have provided more than 400,000 children and adults affected by trauma with creativity as a tool for reflection, empowerment, and transformation. Our current network of over 750 Windows Facilitators, located in 39 states and six countri

es, offer opportunities for creative expression to children and adults who've experienced domestic violence, homelessness, child abuse, incarceration, sexual assault, substance abuse, community violence, intergenerational trauma, and more. The AWBW philosophy is grounded in the idea that our art workshops are a “Window of Time” — a safe, non-judgmental space where participants can authentically express their identity, hopes, dreams, experiences and truths. In this environment, participants can fully benefit from the process of creating art.

✨ Happy Juneteenth! ✨

On June 19, 1865, enslaved Black Texans finally received word of the Emancipation Proclamation, more than two years after Lincoln signed it. That day became Juneteenth, and it's worth knowing, celebrating, and teaching.

Windows Facilitator Tanya Taylor and AWBW Program Partner Black in Mayberry created a toolkit to do exactly that: history, recipes, activist profiles, kids' resources, and more.

Today is Denim Day, and we're wearing denim in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault everywhere. 💙

We stand against sexual violence and for the healing, safety, and dignity of every survivor.

We're uplifted by the words of AWBW Facilitator Karen Gonzalez-Torres, who uses the Story Trees art workshop to help survivors reclaim their narratives. Through creativity and community, she found her own healing and now holds space for others to find theirs.

AWBW’s Windows Facilitators are at the heart of our impact. Across sectors, they integrate healing arts into their work, strengthening client outcomes and supporting the wellbeing of the communities they serve.

Each year we survey our network of Facilitators to better understand how they are using the art in their work and the impact they are seeing firsthand. This year’s highlights include:

• 63% are using our workshops with staff and colleagues to support team building, workplace wellness, and community care
• 82% are using workshops to strengthen self-care practices
• 89% of Facilitators rated AWBW’s program as extremely or very effective in bringing about positive change in their personal lives

We are deeply grateful to our Facilitator community and to our supporters, whose continued investment helps ensure healing spaces are created for those who need them most.

Last year, so much was asked of our communities, and yet, across the country, people turned to art to process, connect, and move forward together.

In our 2025 Impact Report, "Art in Times of Crisis," we uplift our network of 1,600+ Windows Facilitators through stories of art in action: supporting wildfire recovery, responding to harm from ICE raids and attacks on funding for critical social services, and creating spaces for reflection, connection, and healing in communities across the country.

In 2025, together we:
• Grew our Facilitator network by 25%
• Reached 500+ program partners nationwide, the highest number in our 34 year history
• Dramatically increased Windows Facilitator training scholarships

These milestones ensured that AWBW’s healing-centered art remained accessible, even as barriers increased.

We hope that you will celebrate the incredible impact of AWBW and our Facilitators, and also see yourself as part of this co-creative process; where we are building the future of this work and the world around us, together.
