Our next speaker will be Prof. Brian Monacelli of JPL (Mars Rover Program) on November 04 from 6:30-7:30 pm Pacific. He is currently an optical engineer at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), where he works as an optical engineer on the SHERLOC instrument for the Mars 2020 rover, among other projects.

And.... it's a WRAP! Yes we did it!!!

In a record 2 hours, we loaded a few hundred pairs of crutches, 50 wheelchairs and a whole lot of walkers, canes, walking boots and stuff into a 20 ft container. The container is stocked, locked and ready on its way to Costa Rica for distribution by our sister Rotary clubs, including Club Rotario de Alajuela

In 2019 alone, 1,400 young people aged out of the foster care system here in Los Angeles, and at least 400 became instantly homeless. Sadly, that’s just part of the picture as chronic youth homelessness overall has increased by 66% in just the last 12 months in the LA County.

To give us perspective on Youth Homelessness and one group's efforts at addressing this issue, Rotary DTLA has invited Suzanne S. Brown, Executive Director, Southern California Region of First Place for Youth.

Suzanne's presentation will include a briefing to help you gain a current understanding of the issues surrounding youth homelessness. She will provide an overview of the urgency of the issue, long-term consequences and the approaches that are working. This includes the work of First Place for Youth and its Flagship program model, success stories of participants who’ve successfully completed the My First Place Program as well information on how Rotary can support efforts in helping young people transition successfully into adulthood.

Calling for Volunteers for the Rotary CRUTCHES 4 COSTA RICA Project!

Rotarians! IT's LOAD 'EM UP day.

Starting at ****9:00 AM, Saturday May 15, 2021***, we will load a few hundred pairs of crutches, 50 wheelchairs and a whole lot of walkers, canes, walking boots and stuff into a 20 ft container. The container will then go to Costa Rica for distribution by our sister Rotary club.

BUT we need lots of hands to move the stuff from the dock into the container.
