(389)

Established in 1965, East West Players has been called โ€œthe nationโ€™s pre-eminent Asian American theater troupeโ€ (New York Times 12/16/01) for our award-winning productions blending Eastern and Western movement, costumes, language, and music. EWP has premiered over 100 plays and musicals about the Asian Pacific American experience and has held over 1,000 readings and workshops. Our emphasis is on b

uilding bridges between East and West, and one measure of our success is an audience of 56% Asians and a remarkable 44% non-Asian attendance.

๐Ÿ‘‘ CASTING ANNOUNCEMENT ๐Ÿ‘‘

East West Players is seeking AEA and Non-Union actors for principal roles for our upcoming production of... WIVES, written by and directed by

The laugh-out-loud comedy, featuring a primarily South Asian and South Asian American cast, will have its Southern California premiere at EWP in October 2026. The play finds an immediate resonance after the last national election, where the first South Asian American woman presidential candidate and the first South Asian American second lady found themselves in the spotlight of Americaโ€™s two major political parties. WIVES takes the audience on a spellbinding journey from 16th-century France to 1920s India and 1960s Idaho, offering potent perspectives on the lives of historyโ€™s influential men through the eyes of their equally formidable spouses. This work challenges the construction of historical narratives, framing them not as a series of events dominated by men, but as a tapestry woven by many hands.

Happy closing to the phenomenal company of artists that brought โ€™s FLOWER DRUM SONG to life after 25 years since its last revival in LA. Thank you to the families, friends, and new fans that came to experience a show like no other, by AAPI artists for the AAPI community. Our little Club Chop Suey in Little Tokyo served historic Chinatown glamour night after night. Sharing some final praise from LA critics before last call brings the curtain down.
