Dear Councilwoman Traci Park and Team,
I am pleased to hear Councilwoman Park's strong words during the City Council meeting on 9/26/2023. I am grateful that she took a stand on the critical issue of upzoning in the L.A. community. I cannot agree more with her statement that "building a 7-story building without adequate parking in an R1 single-family neighborhood without any community process is an absolute non-starter for me and my constituents."
She is 100% right. Westchester Playa residents stand together on this issue. We are for fair and equitable housing, but upzoning our homes is an absolute non-starter.
The City's plan for Westchester Playa is deeply flawed and must be changed. We refuse to accept any Community Plan Update for Westchester Playa that includes the upzoning of any single-family or du/tri/four-plex homes. Instead, I support the idea of a handful of carefully selected sites (like the ones proposed in the One Voice Plan submitted to you by the Community Alliance and Preserve Westchester) that would accommodate affordable housing without upzoning homes or overburdening our transit corridors to/from LAX.
