Pathways was founded in 1978 by educator and activist Bea Gold as an organization committed to assuring access to evidence-based and best practices in early childhood services for children of all abilities and incomes. Over the years, Pathways’ programs and services have expanded to meet the growing needs of vulnerable children and families, and today is a recognized leader in early care and educa
tion resources for families in its service area – SPA 4 (Service Planning Area 4) in metro LA - administering over $17 million a year in public and private funds that reach over 15,000 children, parents, and caregivers every year. Pathways is the single largest nonprofit resource for child care and early education services for low income working families with young children in greater metropolitan Los Angeles, with three locations in Koreatown, Eagle Rock, and West Hollywood. Pathways’ programs help families find and pay for high quality child care and preschool services, train and support community providers in best practices, and engage parents to support children’s early learning. Pathways believes that strong families play a key role in children’s early development, and investments in early care and education programs prepare children for success in school and beyond. Accessible and affordable high quality child care is not only critical for children’s development, but is also fundamental to families’ self-sufficiency and the region’s economic recovery.
