——> This Friday from 12-8pm come to Echo Park Lake during the “ Kick it in the Park” watch party and find out directly from LADOT what their plans are for fixing Dodger traffic issues. But more importantly, how does the proposed Dodger Gondola factor into it?

There is no direct mention of Frank McCourt’s vanity gondola project on the survey, but it is implied: ladot.lacity.gov/dodger-stadium The gondola would INCREASE the negative impacts the Dodgers are having on neighboring communities. We are steadfast in our opposition.

Let LADOT know that Angelenos overwhelmingly oppose this proposed gondola. Fill out their 7 minute survey (chance to win $50 gift card), and tell them NO GONDOLA! bit.ly/LADOT-Dodgers

——> Artemisia californica, a.k.a “Cowboy cologne,” was actually used by cowboys of the Wild West era as a natural deodorant.

Although it is not a true sage, it is a member of the sunflower family and has evolved to resprout quickly after a fire. This plant provides shelter for wildlife and was considered a key medicinal plant to indigenous peoples, who prepared it in various ways to treat headaches, menstrual cramps, respiratory issues and general pain.

Drought-deciduous, it dislikes summer water. El Niño may pose a challenge to this plant and others with summer dormancy; we’ll see what happens! Check out California Sagebrush at the Test Plot s in the park before it sheds its leaves.

Over the weekend, we brought a small team together for light maintenance at the monarch habitat, tackling fast-growing weeds that pop up this time of year. Thanks to Julia Jung and the volunteers at for making it happen 💚

We’ll be back in the garden in the new year, with our next milkweed planting and giveaway happening on January 11. More details coming soon!
