🧬🐰 GLOW-IN-THE-DARK RABBITS? THIS ISN'T SCIENCE FICTION.

Sadly, this is real.

Scientists and commercial breeders are already experimenting with genetically modifying companion animals for purely cosmetic purposes—including rabbits whose DNA has been altered to make them glow in the dark.

At Bunny World Foundation, we believe rabbits are not novelty items, collectibles, or living science experiments. They are intelligent, sensitive, emotional beings who deserve compassion and respect—not genetic manipulation for someone's amusement or profit.

Meanwhile, California shelters are already overwhelmed. Every week, we rescue abandoned rabbits from animal shelters, parks, backyards, and neglect cases. Thousands of healthy rabbits lose their homes every year because people purchase animals on impulse and then discard them when the novelty wears off.

Let's focus on finding loving homes for the thousands of rabbits already waiting in shelters and rescues—not creating new ones in laboratories.

💔🐰 TOMORROW DOESN'T HAVE TO BE CAPITÁN CRUNCH'S LAST DAY. 🐰💔

This little boy is only 13 weeks old.

His name is Capitán Crunch.

On July 5, just one day after Independence Day, this tiny baby arrived at Los Angeles Animal Services fighting for his life.

He weighed only 1 pound.

His body temperature had dropped to just 96.7°F.

He was emaciated, hungry, weak, and struggling simply to survive.

And somehow... he still hasn't given up.

Animal Control reached out to Bunny World Foundation, hoping we could help before it was too late.

This was the message we received:

"13-week-old rabbit presents very underweight and with an initial low body temperature. Under supportive care at this time. If there is no rescue response by 4:00 PM on 7/11/26, the rabbit will be euthanized that day."

💔 Tomorrow is that day.

Capitán Crunch is a beautiful Harlequin Holland Lop with his whole life ahead of him.

Everything about this little boy suggests he was once someone's beloved pet. At just 13 weeks old, he arrived at the shelter intact, with no microchip, and no indication that he had received the veterinary care every rabbit deserves.

Instead of being cherished, he ended up abandoned, desperately underweight, and fighting for his life.

We don't yet know exactly what's wrong.

He may be suffering from severe malnutrition.

He may have a heavy parasite load.

He may have an underlying dental disease requiring treatment.

We won't know until we can get him to our veterinarian.

☀️🐰 SUNNY NEEDS A FOSTER TODAY! 🐰☀️

Yesterday, someone abandoned this precious little orange-and-white Dutch baby at Los Angeles Animal Services.

Her name is Sunny.

She is only 4 weeks old.

At four weeks old, she should still be discovering the world—not trying to survive it.

Instead of spending her babyhood snuggled beside her family, Sunny spent yesterday alone in a shelter kennel, wondering why no one came back for her.

Animal Control reached out to Bunny World Foundation and our fellow New Hope Partners, hoping someone could save her before it's too late.

Today alone, Bunny World Foundation is racing against the clock to save FIVE rabbits on death row from FIVE different Southern California shelters. Sunny is just the first of today's emergency pleas.

Every foster application is carefully reviewed. Even during emergencies, we cannot skip our screening process.

We're working around the clock reviewing applications, speaking with potential fosters, checking housing setups, and making sure each rabbit is going somewhere safe.

That means we sometimes have to say no to outdoor hutches, homes with incompatible circumstances, or locations that are simply too far away for a critically ill baby who may need emergency veterinary care.

It isn't because we don't appreciate your willingness to help.

It's because every decision we make is about giving these rabbits the very best chance at a long, healthy life.

If you're in L.A., you’ve already heard the BOOMS, BANGS, and random kabooms shaking the streets. And yes, it’s just getting started. Welcome to the annual chaos we lovingly call...
🎆 The War Zone Formerly Known as Independence Day.

💔 But while some cheer the noise, our animal friends are living a nightmare. Fireworks are NOT festive for wildlife or pets — they’re traumatizing, toxic, and often fatal.

🚫✨ Please skip the fireworks this year. It's not celebration — it's devastation.

🌿 Wildlife doesn’t do well with “shock and awe.”
Our city is home to countless animals — birds, bunnies, deer, squirrels, raccoons, coyotes, opossums, ducks, geese... even fish! The explosions cause birds to literally fall dead from the sky. Moms flee in panic, abandoning their babies. Fires ignite. Waters get poisoned. All for five minutes of oohs and ahhs.

🐰 Bunnies especially suffer.
Their hearing is sharper than yours by a long shot (seriously, like superhero-level sharp). That firework you “barely noticed”? It was a sonic bomb to your rabbit.

🔊 Stress leads to panic. Panic leads to injury, escape attempts, and even deadly G.I. stasis — a silent killer in rabbits. Vision-impaired buns are at even greater risk.

✅ How to protect your bunny this July 4:

🔒 Keep them indoors — windows & doors CLOSED
🎶 Play soft music or TV to drown out the madness
🕳️ Provide hidey-holes, tunnels, & snacks in safe spots
🥗 Serve a big, leafy salad + pile up the hay
🧸 Offer chew toys or fun enrichment
💨 Keep it cool: AC, fans, frozen water bottles
💉 Microchip your buns — and double-check the registration
🍓 Try a “treat test” — if they refuse a favorite treat, it’s vet time
🐰 Never leave a blind or nervous bunny alone during fireworks
🫂 And most importantly: Cuddle like it’s the end of the world (because to them, it kind of feels like it is).

Just hours before the Fourth of July holiday, someone dumped a tiny baby bunny weighing less than HALF A POUND at West Valley Animal Shelter in Los Angeles (LA Animal Services).

At 7:30 PM tonight, Animal Control reached out to Bunny World Foundation with an urgent plea:

"We just received a very young bunny needing immediate help. If you are able to rescue this bunny or have space available, please let us know as soon as possible. Time is of the essence for one this young, and we want to ensure it gets the care it needs." 🐾

Our hearts said YES immediately.

But rescue is only possible if we have the people to make it happen.

Right now, Sherpy needs:

🏡 An emergency foster home
🚗 A transporter to help get Sherpy safely from West Valley Animal Shelter in Los Angeles

⭐ Even better, if you live nearby and can pick Sherpy up directly from the shelter on Bunny World Foundation's behalf, you could save this baby's life tonight.

🇺🇸 We know many of you are preparing to celebrate Independence Day with family and friends.

But abandoned rabbits don't get holidays.

💔 Who dumps a gorgeous Holland Lop at a city shelter?

Meet Benny. 🐇

At just 3.2 pounds, this sweet little boy is sitting in a cold shelter cage at Los Angeles Animal Services when he should be stretched out on a soft blanket, munching hay, and soaking up affection.

Instead, he's waiting.

Waiting for someone to notice him.

Waiting for someone to give him a chance.

Those of us in rabbit rescue know that lop rabbits are incredibly special. We also know they often come with significant medical challenges. Many of the lops we rescue have suffered neglect, chronic dental disease, or years without proper care.

But right now, Benny's biggest need isn't surgery or diagnostics.

It's a foster home.

Every day Benny remains at the shelter is another day of stress, loneliness, and uncertainty. 💔

Those of us in rabbit rescue know that lop rabbits are beautiful, but their adorable round faces often come with significant health challenges. Many of the lops we rescue suffer from chronic dental disease, require expensive surgeries, or have endured neglect and abuse. There's a reason lop rabbits are often considered the "French Bulldogs" of the rabbit world.

But before we can get Benny the veterinary care and evaluation he deserves, we need a foster home.

🐰💔 URGENT: FOSTER HOME NEEDED FOR JAZZY 💔🐰

Sometimes loving an animal means asking for help when you can no longer provide what they need.

Today, we're hoping someone will open their heart to Jazzy, a sweet cinnamon-colored bunny who urgently needs a safe place to land. 😢

His owner reached out to us with this heartbreaking message:

"Hello, I called this morning about giving my bunny away by tomorrow. I tried calling the Riverside Lucky Bunny Rescue but there was no answer and their website has no information on what times they are open.

Here are pictures of Jazzy. His one eye is a little messed up. I took him to the vet and they helped, but it came back and I cannot afford to take proper care of him.

He is neutered."

💔 Jazzy has a medical issue affecting one of his eyes.

💔 His owner is doing the responsible thing by asking for help before his situation becomes even more desperate.

💔 But he needs somewhere to go.

This sweet boy didn't ask for any of this. He simply deserves a chance to be safe, comfortable, and cared for. 🥺
