Amidst all the excitement of the recently announced Mission shows for 2026 let’s not forget somebody’s birthday, eh? Today it is our beloved Simon ‘Slink’ Hinkler’s day to blow out a ton of candles on a cake!! Yes, happy birthday, Simon, from all of us at MWIS. Crack a few cans and smoke a few tabs, you know, pretty much like any other day really. 😉 Have a good ‘un, Si. Xx

Paul Thompson, known to fans as Pearl, contributed significantly to the evolution of The Cure’s post-punk and gothic sound. As a founding member, his atmospheric guitar layers helped define the band’s emotional and mysterious tone in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His style blended artistic subtlety with haunting melodies that became iconic within the alternative music scene.

Beyond music, Thompson pursued visual arts, proving that his creativity extended well beyond performance. His artwork reflected the same introspective and expressive qualities that marked his musical style.

Although he stepped away from The Cure, his influence remains a vital part of the band’s legacy. His contributions continue to be celebrated by fans who appreciate his ability to merge art and music in a deeply personal way.
