πβ¨ SLYO's Operation Rise Above: Bringing Hope to Students πβοΈ
At SLYO, we believe in creating positive change within our community. On August 25th, our students came together at the Learning Linkages site to pack backpacks filled with essential school supplies for fellow students in need.
π Held at Parkland Middle School on August 26th, 2023, in partnership with Learning Linkages, this event was a testament to unity and compassion. With the guidance of school coordinator Gabi Poggy and the Learning Linkages Manager, we identified students from low-income families who would benefit from a backpack full of supplies.
Generous local donors, including Robert from Germantown Staples and Jenny from Costco, played a vital role in our efforts. Thanks to their support, we were able to provide over 100 backpacks containing colored pencils, crayons, and markers, along with sticky notes purchased through a $30 gift card.
Our SLYO students stepped up to fundraise and collect school supplies from their teachers, embodying the spirit of giving. Special recognition goes to Dulathmi De Silva, a 10th grader at Rockville High School, who went above and beyond by raising funds, creating awareness, and rallying her teachers' support.π
Dulanjalee Edirisinghe, Menuli Perera, and Anjara Ratsirarson also made impactful contributions through their fundraising efforts. π
Together, we distributed around 95 backpacks to deserving students, making a meaningful impact on their educational journey. One anonymous mother expressed her gratitude, highlighting how this drive touched lives within our community. π
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who made this possible. Your support resonates with the core values of SLYO β community, compassion, and upliftment.
"Thank you SLYO for looking out for our community and our children."
