Zane has a master's degree. His parents are both doctors. And a few years ago, he was living on the streets.
"It's a really alienating experience to be a homeless person. You're only ever greeted with fear, disgust, or neglect."
Addiction took everything: his job, his health, his home. After treatment, Zane found Food on Foot. And he decided to trust that asking for help was okay.
That decision changed his life.
Today, Zane is housed. He works at a detox center in Woodland Hills helping others walk the same road he did. He just secured a loan to go back to school and become a drug and alcohol counselor. And for the first time in his life, he cares about his credit score.
"A couple years ago, if anything was in my bank account, it was being spent on drugs immediately, because I didn't care about tomorrow, let alone today."
Now he does.
That shift - from survival to stability, from the street to a future, is exactly what Food on Foot exists to make possible. Through our Jobs and Housing program, participants build the skills, savings, and support network to move toward real independence.
Zane's story isn't an exception. It's what happens when someone is met with dignity instead of judgment.
