Jose Mario from the Southeast-Rio Vista YMCA shares his story about how the YMCA backpack drives helped his family and getting his daughters ready for the school year.

"[We received] backpacks and a lot of school supplies, information also. This was a very good surprise from the YMCA. It saves us money, first of all, it saves us a trip too, to go get supplies to the grocery store, to a store, to a market.

[The Y] has made my kids very social. Very, very social. Helps them get ready for the next step in life. They're ready for it, and that's good. The main part is that they become very social. Very outgoing."

Over the past few weeks, we hosted back-to-school backpack giveaway events at several of our centers, in partnership with NBC LA and Telemundo 52 Los Angeles. We handed out backpacks filled with school supplies, invited community partners to share information about health and wellness, and gave youth the tools they need to succeed this school year! Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make this possible. Together we are creating bright futures for our youth, helping the next generation achieve their full potential.

Here at the LA Y, we offer educational resources for youth of all ages for their learning development and their own success in school. Our Early Learning Readiness and Preschool programs prepare children with early education, and our After School programs provide all the tools and resources that youth need to succeed. Over the summer, we had the Los Angeles Rams and Rampage visit several of our day camps to read some fun stories with our campers! We are grateful for our partnership with the LA Rams both on and off the field - helping our youth play together in our LA Flag Football program, giving lifelong summer memories for our youth in camp, and so much more.
