Happy Trails for Kids

Happy Trails for Kids Happy Trails for Kids is a non-profit organization that aims to provide stability, self-esteem and a They are separated from siblings, relatives and friends.

Nearly one hundred times a day, a child in California is placed in foster care because of severe abuse or neglect. In Los Angeles County alone, there are over 30,000 boys and girls in the foster care system. Although the child welfare system is built to protect youth, too often these children are exposed to additional trauma once placed in foster care. Frequently moved from home to home, they enco

unter a stream of new caretakers, schools, therapists and peers. Not surprisingly, without stability and proper support, foster children face an exceptionally high risk of unemployment, homelessness and incarceration as adults. More than 50% do not graduate from high school and only 3% will earn a college degree. To combat these statistics, Happy Trails for Kids provides overnight summer camps, year-round alumni events, and older youth programs that help our campers prepare for life after foster care. We impart meaningful stability and a sense of community. We infuse fragile young lives with laughter, joy, happy memories and exciting experiences. We teach our children that in spite of their circumstances, they have a circle of support surrounding them and hope for a better future.

“Everything about Happy Trails is special to me because I’ve had the chance to meet other kids in foster care, make new friends and do things I might never get to do because they’re not available to everybody, like swimming and canoeing.”

Camper Success Stories

"Happy Trails for Kids is a safe haven for foster youth. Every year we see new and returning campers excited to be in a place where they can truly be themselves. No one will be judged because they do not live with their parents, but loved because they have loving spirits."

- Jasmine, Counselor & Former Foster Youth

“Happy Trails is a really good place for kids to be because it’s a lot of fun. It’s a good place for all the kids having a hard life and struggling and things like that. Happy Trails bring joys to kids’ hearts and makes their lives a little bit easier."

- Kevin, Camper, Age 10

“I like Happy Trails a lot and I like going camping a lot. Swimming in the pool and hiking were the most fun things. The counselors were nice and they get along with the kids with a lot. I made good friends - they were so happy and they were never mad! I think everyone who went to camp would want to go back again.”

- Kelsey, Camper, Age 9

A huge THANK YOU to Kids4Dodger Baseball for giving our Happy Trails for Kids families the chance to experience America’s favorite pastime! ⚾💙

Yesterday, our families enjoyed another unforgettable day at Dodger Stadium, complete with game tickets and meal vouchers for everyone. For many of our families, an experience like this simply wouldn’t be possible without this incredible generosity.

The smiles, excitement, and memories made together mean more than we can say. We are so grateful to Kids4Dodger Baseball for opening the door to experiences that bring families together and create moments our kids will remember for years to come.

Thank you for helping our Happy Trails families make memories beyond camp! ⚾🌟💙

As the sun sets on another incredible summer, our hearts are completely full. 🌅✨

Looking back at these memories, we are reminded that Happy Trails is not just a summer camp—but, a place for children in foster care to feel at home. 🌲🏠

We asked our campers what this summer meant to them, and their words say it all:
📝 “Today I felt like I belong. Camp helped me feel like people actually wanted and cared for me.”
📝 “Happy Trails is a family for kids in foster care.”
📝 “How I would describe camp: an overwhelming amount of joy.”

Summer 2026 may be coming to a close, but the confidence, bravery, and love these kids found here will stay with them forever. 💙

We are so grateful for our incredible campers, whose resilience, laughter, and bright spirits inspire us every single day. We also owe a massive thank you to our community of donors, volunteers, and staff. You provided the resources, the time, and the unconditional love that made every breakthrough moment possible.
We truly could not do this without you! 🙌🎉

We’re building 133 acres of hope. 🌲✨

For 16+ years, Happy Trails for Kids has welcomed Los Angeles County foster youth into transformative outdoor experiences that build confidence, connection, and deep belonging.

The impact is real. In 2025 alone:
🌟 600+ youth joined our community.
📈 90% of campers reported a stronger sense of belonging.

Now, our dream is expanding.

Thanks to a massive land grant from LA County, we are repairing, revitalizing, and reimagining this 133-acre campus into a permanent home for thousands of foster youth each year.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your help to make this vision a reality. 🙏

🌊🏄‍♂️ STOKE LEVEL: 100! 🏄‍♂️🌊
Our campers had an unforgettable day catching waves during an Ocean Therapy beach day with our amazing partners at the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation!

From the second they hit the sand, the energy was contagious. Our kids boogie boarded, surfed, and completely crushed their comfort zones.

The best part? Seeing the pure joy and massive smiles when they stood up on their boards for the first time! 🥹💙 Even wipeouts were met with laughter.

Every single wave built confidence, courage, and resilience.

Summer camp might be over, but Happy Trails is a year-round community where our youth know they always belong.

Through incredible partnerships, we continue creating opportunities for our youth to grow, connect, and experience unforgettable adventures.

Happy Trails for Kids needs partners, sponsors, and friends to help bring a new pool to life.

What looks like an empty dirt lot today will become a place where children growing up in foster care can swim, play, explore, and just be kids.

This new pool will be part of Happy Trails’ new camp in Acton, and your support can help make it happen.

At Happy Trails for Kids, every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and like they belong.

Camp is more than activities. It is a place where kids are understood, supported, and reminded that no one is giving up on them.

That is the difference belonging can make.

A permanent camp means more than a place to gather.

It means a place to call home.

A place where kids can return, build memories, form friendships, and know that Happy Trails will always be there waiting for them.

That kind of home can change everything.

One of the best parts of camp?

Watching campers grow into counselors.

The same kids who once came to camp to run, play, and just be kids are now helping the next group eat, hydrate, stay safe, and make memories of their own.

That’s the Happy Trails difference.
