We’re excited to honor Cynthia Sigler and Alex Athenson, Co-Founders of the Foothill Catalog Foundation! ()

Passionate about regionally sensitive and sustainable design, Cynthia is motivated by the impact of the built environment at every scale. As Associate Director of the AIA Los Angeles Emerging Professionals Committee, she worked to expand licensure resources, networking, and professional development opportunities for the next generation of design professionals. Following the Eaton Fire, Cynthia has continued this commitment to her community by helping develop pre-approved standard plans to make rebuilding in Pasadena-Altadena more equitable and accessible.

With a background spanning economics, architecture, urban design, and architectural research, and an expertise and passion for regional traditional design, Alex has contributed to a number of architecture and urban design projects throughout the United States and around the world.

On July 25, the IIDA Southern California Chapter Board of Directors gathered at the Burger Construction / Howard Building Corporation office in San Diego for our Annual Board Meeting.

The morning's open session highlighted the incredible work and achievements across the Chapter, while Chapter Past President Robert Norwood recognized the Board for their leadership and service.

Emerging Leaders Program Chairs Sean Kim Nickerson and Amy Bonelli reflected on the program's origins, sharing its evolution and celebrating key milestones from throughout the years.

Amanda Humphries received the award for Board Member of the Year due to her tireless efforts on the campaign that aimed to bring Interior Design licensure to the state of California.

The afternoon marked the beginning of a new Board term as Chapter President Sonaly Dudheker led strategic planning workshops with the incoming Board. Joined by President Elect Sarah Geske, the Chapter's leadership team is energized and ready for an exciting year ahead.

Get a behind the scenes tour of the recently renovated Civic Theatre!

Join us for an exclusive evening at the newly renovated San Diego Civic Theatre (), reimagined by Tucker Sadler Architects () in collaboration with IGroup Design (). IGroup Design led the interior transformation, replacing the theatre’s original 1960s red-and-gold palette with a rich ocean-blue aesthetic inspired by San Diego’s tidepools and coastal waters.

Guests will enjoy guided tours of the renovated space, along with drinks and appetizers while exploring the theatre’s stunning new look and design story.

The IIDA Southern California Chapter recently hosted its annual Chapter Sponsor Appreciation Happy Hour at a new venue this year, the Tulum inspired rooftop at The Delphi Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.

With sweeping 360-degree skyline views and a stunning LA sunset as the backdrop, nearly 70 attendees gathered to celebrate the partnerships that strengthen our Chapter.

The evening brought together Chapter Sponsors, Design Partners, and Board Members for an opportunity to connect, network, and show appreciation for the continued support of our sponsor community.

Hosted by Past President Sarah Devine and Vice Presidents of Sponsorship, Leslie Fields and Amy Bonelli, the event was filled with great conversation, meaningful connections, and a shared celebration of the relationships that help our Chapter thrive.
