🚨CALL TO ACTION! BLOCK THE SWEEP! 41.18 Sweep Blockade this Thursday, August 18th at 7:30am at Van Nuys Orange Line station (6060 Van Nuys Blvd). 🚨

Support Our Unhoused Neighbors in Van Nuys Against 41.18. Together We Can Fight All Evictions!

Every Thursday, LAPD and Sanitation sweep the community living in and around the Salvation Army A Bridge Home Shelter in Van Nuys in a Special Enforcement Zone.

The goal is to make sure people do not lose their homes or property and no arrests are made. We simply ask that sanitation take the trash and leave peoples’ homes intact.

Sanitation will return this Thursday, August 18th for a potential full sweep. We need community support to block 41.18 💖

Community turnout has successfully blocked comprehensive sweeps for over 2 months now! DM us if you’re coming thru.

New week, same message City Council didn't listen last week so we extended people's public comment. They deflect all they want & still don't address root causes & choose instead to criminalize poverty. JOIN US TUESDAY @ 8:30am! 200 N Main St

The Unhoused asked why City Council set up special enforcement zones to sweep weekly instead of providing services? The Unhoused asked why 41.18 was created to criminalize use of public space rather than provide housing? How far do we let this wrecking crew take it?

City Council tries to delegitimize its constituents giving public comment, but they can't save the lives of the who have died under their "leadership." Over 50k Unhoused students in LA--don't let CC legislate against people they claim to protect.

Calle Principal 200 Norte

On Monday, August 8th, the City of LA will begin criminalizing the repair, sale and distribution of bikes on public sidewalks. Join us for “Bike Repair City” a one day creative action and protest against this law that will target poor and low income communities, unhoused people, street vendors, black and brown cyclists. This law is not about bike parts - it’s about criminalizing our communities.

Starti the day off at 11am with a kick-off press conference to hear from those who will be most directly impacted by this law including unhoused community members, bike mechanics, street vendors and cyclists of color. Hosted by of featuring and more.

We will then hold a free bike repair clinic on the steps of city hall for anyone who wants to have their bike repaired with community partners and community bicycle co-ops including + and more. We will have giveaways, free bike education, know your rights and much more.

At 5 pm we will convene for a mass bike ride in protest with and other crews.

And we will end the day with a mutual aid night market from 7-10pm featuring food, hygiene, clothing and essentials with + and more.

Join us in building a movement to resist criminalization of poor and low-income communities here in Los Angeles. Bike repair is not a crime. Ride to Live/Repair to Ride!

Recap from : Today, LA City Council voted to make it illegal to be homeless in 20% of the city. They cleared the chambers of the mass of dissenters and passed the expansion of 41.18 with no one but a row of cops inside.

We demand the full repeal of 41.18. And we fight for a social and economic system that abolishes poverty and homelessness, rather than one that banishes and criminalizes those it produces as poor and unhoused.
//

See you tomorrow am! 9am City Hall. It’s time to repeal and abolish 41.18 criminalization once and for all.

Communities across LA tenants movement flooded City Hall inside and out last Wednesday to protest the expansion of 41.18 but the fight is not over. Council delayed the vote to Tuesday August 2nd in an attempt to erode our momentum and stifle our voices.

We won’t let that happen. The fight now is to keep the pressure on!! See you tomorrow 9am at City Hall, 200 N Spring St.

You can help right now by posting a public comment on the council file.

✍️ 📸: WHEN WE FIGHT 📢 WE WIN 🗣

The community flooded City Hall inside and out today to protest 41.18 but the fight is not over. Council delayed the vote to Tues Aug 2nd in an attempt to erode our momentum and stifle our voices.

We won’t let that happen. See you next Tuesday 9am.

It’s clear that Nury and friends weren’t prepared for our numbers and they were unable to rally their (few but loud) 41.18 supporters, which is what they will be doing in the next 5 days.

The fight now is to keep the pressure on and show the f up next week!!
