Behind every statistic is a child who deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential.

More children are being identified with autism, which means more families need access to evaluations, therapies, healthcare, educational support and resources. But access to those services is still not equal.

Black, Indigenous and other families of color face systemic barriers to autism diagnosis and care, including economic inequality, limited healthcare access, transportation challenges and language barriers. For Black children specifically, research has documented significant delays in diagnosis. A 2020 study found an average of more than three years between parents first raising developmental concerns and their child receiving an autism diagnosis. This is not acceptable.

Special Needs Network works every day to expand access to care and opportunity for children and families in communities that have too often been underserved.

Because where a child lives, what their family earns or the color of their skin should never determine whether they get the support they need to thrive. 💜

Special Needs Network is proud to announce acclaimed actor, director and producer Richard Lawson as our Lifetime Achievement Honoree at the 20th Anniversary Evening Under the Stars on October 24th!

With a career spanning more than five decades across film, television and theater, Richard has built a remarkable legacy as an artist, educator and mentor, using his experience to help open doors for the next generation of storytellers.

As Special Needs Network celebrates 20 years of creating greater opportunity, access and belonging for children with developmental disabilities, we’re honored to recognize people whose impact reaches far beyond their own accomplishments.

We’re proud to see Areva Martin joining the UCLA Tarjan Center Forum in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities for an important conversation about navigating myths and misinformation in disability spaces.

On October 23rd, Areva will join advocates, researchers and disability leaders for the panel “Who Do You Trust? Navigating Myths and Misinformation in Disability Spaces.”

Together, they’ll discuss how to tell what information you can trust and how to find reliable sources in disability spaces.

Voting should be accessible to everyone. 💜

That’s why we’re proud to partner with Los Angeles County to host a one-day Flex Voting Center at Special Needs Network on November 2nd.

Part of LA County’s Mobile Voting Program, Flex Voting Centers bring the same voting experience available at traditional Vote Centers directly into community locations, creating additional opportunities to vote for people who may need them most. 
Right here at Special Needs Network, Los Angeles County voters will be able to vote in person, drop off a completed ballot, complete same-day registration and vote, or use accessible voting equipment.

⏰ 10 am–2 pm
📍 Special Needs Network, 4401 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles

Can’t make it on November 2nd? You can also return your ballot by mail, use an official LA County ballot drop box, or visit another Vote Center.

However you choose to vote, make a plan to get your ballot in and make sure it’s counted.

Special Needs Network is thrilled to announce that Olympic Gold Medalist and two-time Olympian Jordan Chiles will join us for our 20th Anniversary Evening Under the Stars on October 24th!

Jordan will receive SNN’s Champion of Change Award, recognizing her extraordinary resilience, leadership, and commitment to using her platform to empower others. From helping lead Team USA to Olympic gold to advocating for mental health, body positivity, and the next generation of young people, Jordan embodies what it means to be a champion both on and off the competition floor.

As SNN celebrates 20 years of opening doors and creating opportunities for children, young adults, and families, we could not imagine a more inspiring person to help us mark this milestone.

At 6pm on October 24, we’re celebrating how far we’ve come and raising support for the work still ahead. ✨This year’s Evening Under the Stars: Back to the Future will bring together approximately 400 business, civic, entertainment and philanthropic leaders for an unforgettable evening at a private estate in Pasadena.

And this year, we’re dressing for the occasion. Come in Afrofuturistic Glamour, where ’70s soul meets the future.
