Architecture + Advocacy

Architecture + Advocacy Change your neighborhood. Change the world.

We believe everyone, not just trained architects, should have a hand in designing their homes, businesses, and neighborhoods. We achieve this mission through five programs:
1) Cost-Free Architecture Workshops for 3rd-12th grade students and their parents
2) Pro-Bono Design-Builds that bring new resources to underserved neighborhoods
3) Community Outreach + Events
4) Advocacy Campaigns for Spatia

l Justice
5) Leadership Development that equips the next generation of designers with the skills to practice community-engaged design.

Meet Madison Dorsey—a brilliant and driven young leader committed to improving neighborhoods across Los Angeles and beyond. She believes that the people who live in a community, especially young people, should have a real voice in shaping its future.

At A+A, we work to empower youth to speak up, share their ideas, and influence what gets built in their neighborhoods—because better communities start with inclusive voices.

LA Workshop Director Cameron Bloodgood had the opportunity to attend the APX National Convention in Albuquerque, NM last week!

“I had the honor of serving as a convention delegate, voting on important updates to our bylaws and ritual. Such a meaningful experience—but my favorite part was definitely connecting with West Coast chapters and meeting incredible people from all over the country.”

We’re so happy to see our student leaders continuing to be involved both within and beyond A+A!

One of the questions we hear is: what is A+A, and what do you actually do?

At A+A, we advocate for spatial justice — the idea that where you live should not determine your safety, health, or opportunity.

Using our practice in workshops, design builds, and community engagement, we advocate for neighborhoods and a world, where everyone can thrive.

At yesterday’s Townhall, current and prospective board members Briana Ford, Allison Wilson, and Ronnell Hampton joined our student volunteers for speed “coffee chats”— listening, sharing, building relationships, and shaping the future of A+A.

We’re grateful for our student and professional leaders committing to showing up and shaping the future of Architecture + Advocacy together.
