According to , Nigeria is the first country to ban foreign talent from its ads. The effort is meant to amplify and promote more homegrown talent within the country.

Beginning October 1st, companies in Nigeria will only be permitted to showcase local Nigerian talent for entertainment gigs such as acting, modeling, voiceovers, and more. Current advertisement that includes talents that are foreign to Nigeria will be allowed to proceed. New permits will not be considered for any ads that do not consist of homegrown Nigerian talent.

Prior to this law being instated, the Nigerian government charged companies nearly $240 for the use of foreign talent in their ads. Many companies would use British voiceovers or white models for their ad campaigns, and now the government has decided that needs to change. Source: TSR

AstraZeneca is conducting a major review of diversity across its trials in an attempt to ensure its medicines work for all population groups.

According to reporting by The Guardian, David Fredrickson, the head of oncology at , told the paper that the firm was among those leading efforts to improve participation of people of color and other underrepresented groups in clinical trials.

Speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos he called it applying an “equity lens” to every phase of the ’s lifecycle.

Concerns have mounted over the past few years that a lack of diversity among volunteers participating in clinical trials may result in drugs and medical equipment being developed that are less effective in certain groups. Early assessments of the vaccine, for example, were criticized for mainly involving white participants, despite people of color being disproportionately impacted by the disease.
