Advocating for Mother Earth The Anti-Mall is produced by 'El Puente...hacia la esperanza' to provide a space for ARTivist, Performers & Conscious Consumers to come together and invest their money, time and energy into putting PEOPLE b4 Profit.
::How we got started::
Faced with a need to find spaces/events to sell the Zapatista cooperative items we had volunteered and committed to selling as well
as our pre-loved items (which fund our travels to meetings/conferences with the coop members) and having many doors closed on us because we were not the artisans ourselves and the prices for booths were soo high, we had to think outside box. Two great ARTivist from a well known local LA band Quetzal (Martha G. & Quetzal F.) helped come up with the idea, name and production of the very first Anti-Mall and since then, we've been growing and growing. Our goal of finding more spaces to sell the coop items grew to promoting Conscious Consuming and making our communities aware of their artivist, coops, organizations and conscious business. We host an average of 2 Anti-Malls a year (summer/winter) through out the LA area and have a roster of over 75 vendors.
::What makes us stand out::
It's simple, our requirements to be a vendor (aka - Anti-Maller). Great products and services are important to us AND equally important is how the Artisan, Cooperative, Artist, Small Business, Organization & Entrepreneur is actively involved in the betterment of their community. Our Anti-Mallers do such things as: mentor a youth, volunteer at community gardens and non-profits, donate art pieces and/or their time to charity and worthy causes, give free workshops, etc. etc. We make our Anti-Mallers applications available at the Anti-Malls for all Conscious Consumers to see and know who they are investing their hard earned money on. Recycling our funds into people and projects that are part of the solution is what we strive to do.
