Youth Voices Rising, one of three programs overseen by the nonprofit organization Fostering Media Connections (FMC), began in 2016 as a journalism training program for young people with lived experience in the foster care or juvenile justice systems. Based on the curriculum from FMC’s "Journalism for Social Change" program, which ran from 2013-2017 and taught journalism to graduate and undergradua

te students of public policy and social work, Youth Voices Rising allows FMC’s staff — professional journalists and editors at news site The Imprint and parenting magazine Fostering Families Today — to work directly with current and former foster youth.
