Day 3 of Lunch Distribution at KSCC

“Today’s sweet‑and‑sour pork is delicious!”
On the third day of KSCC’s lunch distribution, a long line formed early — yet the final count landed exactly at 100 seniors, thanks to its orderly system.

Some seniors headed home with their meals, while many walked to Dauljeong, a Korean Traditional Shelter in front of the KSCC, where senior friends gathered to eat together. One couple shared, “We usually aren’t this chatty, but eating here at Dauljeong makes us become chattier and laugh a lot,” flashing a cheerful V‑sign.

More than 30 seniors enjoyed lunch together at Dauljeong today, a beautiful corner of Korea‑Town where laughter blooms every day.

“오늘 탕수육 맛있네요~”
시니어센터 점심 도시락 배급 사흘째, 아침부터 긴 줄이 늘어섰지만 자율적 카운트 덕분인지 딱 100명 이었습니다.

도시락을 받아 집으로 가시는 분들도 계시고, 다울정으로 향해 친구들과 함께 식사하시는 분들도 많았습니다. 한 부부는 “우리가 사실 이렇게 다정하지 않은데, 다울정에서 먹을 땐 즐거워요”라며 환하게 브이 포즈를 지어 보였습니다.

오늘 낮에도 다울정에는 30명 넘는 어르신들이 삼삼오오 모여 즐겁게 식사하셨습니다. 웃음꽃이 피는 K‑타운의 아름다운 공간입니다. 감사합니다.

Dementia & Alzheimer’s Health Seminar led by Dr. Sarah Kim

KSCC hosted a special medical seminar this morning at 10:30 AM with Dr. Sarah Kim, Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at Cedars‑Sinai Medical Center.

A total of 54 participants attended the session, where Dr. Kim spent an hour explaining dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in depth. She emphasized the importance of taking proactive steps to maintain brain health.

For better memory and cognitive wellness, Dr. Kim highlighted several key habits:
• Getting 7 hours of sleep each night
• Exercising 30 minutes daily
• Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables
• Staying socially connected and making friends
• Completely avoiding smoking and alcohol

We hope today’s seminar provides meaningful guidance for our seniors and supports their long‑term health.

"kSCC Lunch Distribution Program Resumes on May 11, 2026"

KSCC will resume its lunch meal distribution program starting Monday, May 11.

From Monday to Friday, the center will provide 80–100 Korean lunch boxes each day.

At 11:30 AM today, KSCC President Hyunok Lee met with Omar Torres, Vice President of the YMCA of Metropolitan L.A., for further discussion. Together, they reached an important agreement to restart the long‑awaited lunch program next month.

The lunch distribution program, which began in January 2024, had been suspended since January 9, 2026 due to government's budget cuts. To bring it back, KSCC sought support from California Assemblymember Mark González (District 54), which led to a connection with the YMCA of Metropolitan L.A. and ultimately made this lunch program possible.

This project, supported by an annual budget of approximately $200,000, marks another meaningful step forward for our center. We appreciate your continued interest and encouragement.

KSCC-LA hosted its third Food Bank event of the year this morning at Dauljeong from 9–11 AM. A total of 83 seniors and low‑income families received food support.

올해 세 번째 푸드뱅크 행사가 오늘 오전 9시부터 11시까지 다울정에서 열렸습니다. 지역 내 83명의 노인 및 저소득층 가정이 방문해 식료품을 받아 가셨습니다.

With the changing seasons and unusual weather, please take extra care of your health—drink warm water often and try to walk outside for at least an hour.

환절기와 이상기온이 겹친 만큼 건강관리에 더욱 신경 써 주세요. 따뜻한 물을 자주 드시고, 하루 한 시간은 밖에서 햇볕을 쬐며 걸어보아요.

Our next Food Bank event will be held on April 28.
다음 행사는 4월 28일에 열립니다.

Dancing with the LA Kings!
시니어센터 LA킹스 커뮤니티프로젝트 트롯댄스 한인시니어

The NHL LA Kings joined our KSCC Trot Dance class for a joyful community collaboration!

Ice Crew members Matt & Shanae and mascot Bailey danced, laughed, and connected with 63 seniors, filling the auditorium with energy and smiles.

A huge round of applause welcomed them the moment they walked in — and the room lit up instantly.

Thank you, LA Kings, for celebrating community with us!

KSCC News Update

Our Harmonica Class kicked off the new year with an exciting audition on January 9 at 11 AM. The 2nd‑floor auditorium was filled with 74 members who competed for a chance to perform the U.S. National Anthem at the LA Kings NHL game scheduled for January 20th at Crypto.com Arena.

After performing in pairs—some nervous, some confident—conductor Prof. Eunyoung Kim announced the final 10 performers, greeted by cheers, sighs, and big applause.

“Great job, everyone. Let’s try again next time.”

Just like Korea’s national archery team, our Harmonica Class selects new performers for every event.^^

Registration for KSCC’s 4th Quarter Programs (October–December 2025) officially began today (9/24/25) — and a total of 307 seniors signed up on the first day alone.

-- Registration period is from 9/24/25 (Wed) to Friday, 9/26/25 at 2:00 PM.

-- To ensure safety and order, we announced that number tickets would be distributed starting at 9:30 AM. However, to everyone’s surprise, eager participants began lining up outside the center as early as 11:00 PM the night before!

-- Due to high demand, the following classes are already full:
- Smartphone Basics
- Tai Chi
- Music Class
- Piano
- Dance

Thank you to all our community members for your enthusiasm and patience. We’re honored to serve such a vibrant and engaged senior community!
