In 2026, we celebrate the 100th Black History Month. But it was only 61 years ago– with the passage of the Voting Rights Act– that racial barriers to voting like literacy tests, language barriers, poll taxes, and other methods used to intimidate and disenfranchise Black voters and minorities were banned.

Voting history is Black history. ✊🏻✊🏽🗳️✊🏾✊🏿

A $10 million contract awarded to CoreCivic allowed a former prison to be converted into California’s largest ICE detention center, and it’s located in California City.

The center has been holding immigrants since September 2025 and opened without any legal local and state permits. There are already 100 complaints and several lawsuits from detainees over their exposure to punitive-like conditions.

🗣️ California lawmakers must continue to protect LGBTQ+ youth from extremist hate and bigotry 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈!
