Southern California Wildfire Response

Southern California Wildfire Response Southern California Wildfire Response (formerly LAIT911 Fire) is a public nonprofit, all-hazard emergency response agency.

Southern California Wildfire Response (formerly LAIT911 Fire) is a volunteer-driven public nonprofit dedicated to reducing the impact of disasters and providing critical support to the public before, during, and after emergencies. Our trained Firefighter/EMT personnel respond to wildfires, floods, medical emergencies, and major incidents throughout Los Angeles and Southern California. Established

in 2021, SCWR strengthens early wildfire detection, supports frontline agencies, and helps communities prepare for the increasing risks of extreme fire weather. Through trained volunteers, targeted patrol operations, and advanced technology, we work to reduce ignition risk, improve response times, and protect both people and wildlands across the region. Our programs serve communities throughout Los Angeles and neighboring counties, delivering essential support during high-risk fire weather, major emergencies, and rapidly evolving disaster conditions. SCWR operates with transparency, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to public safety — ensuring that when disaster strikes, Southern California is never left without the help it needs.

SCWR firefighters conducted a prolonged operational retreat deep within the Angeles National Forest, focused on sustained field operations, PT hikes, pump ops, search & rescue, and land navigation.

Crews operated out of the historic LACoFD Fire Camp 16, a site destroyed during the Station Fire, which burned over 251 square miles and claimed the lives of two firefighters. The team solemnly walked through the events that occurred here and the lessons they carry.

The skills sharpened and the history carried forward here are invaluable.

SCWR firefighters and rescue personnel worked throughout the San Fernando Valley today, responding to multiple incidents including traffic collisions, flooded roadways, and water rescues.

Vineland Avenue between Vanowen Street and Sherman Way became severely flooded, trapping several vehicles. SCWR crews rescued those involved, secured the area to prevent additional victims, and cleared the roadway to allow for a safe and quick reopening.

All northbound and turning lanes on Topanga Canyon Boulevard (Route 27) were blocked Monday morning due to a storm-damaged tree that fell during high winds. SCWR crews worked alongside LAPD, and later joined by CalTrans to clear the debris and open all lanes and restore the flow of traffic to the beautiful SFV.

What started in 2021 as a small real-time incident awareness tool has grown into something much bigger—supporting public readiness through the app and backing that up with real-world wildfire and disaster response work.

To reflect that growth, our parent organization is being renamed:

➡️ Southern California Wildfire Response (SCWR) (formerly LAIT911 Fire)

Important: Nothing is changing with the LAIT911 app. Same name, same branding, same mission of keeping people informed during fast-moving emergencies.

Over the coming months, we’ll be gradually updating email addresses, website references, and other administrative branding to match the new organizational name. Going forward, donations and subscriptions may appear as SCWR on receipts/billing statements.

Thank you for being part of this community. Your support is what makes both the tech and the field work possible. ❤️

Tonight, something pretty special happened, LAIT911 reached its one-millionth incident shared.

The LAIT911 app launched in December of 2021 🎂 with a simple mission: give the community clear, reliable information without the noise, confusion, and guesswork that usually comes with breaking events. Just facts. Just situational awareness. Just what you need to stay informed.

That’s one million fires, floods, crashes, violent incidents, and every hazard in between, delivered to our users in real time so people can understand what’s happening around them and stay safer.

These incidents have been sent to users like you before the fire trucks even leave the station, giving you the clarity to understand what’s happening around you and the most amount of time to appropriately prepare and react.

Here’s to staying connected through the next million.

⚠️ Storm Alert: November 13–16
A moderate storm system is heading into Los Angeles with 1–2 inches of rain expected in the City and 2–4 inches in the foothills and mountains. There is a risk of thunderstorms, flooding, power outages, and debris flows, especially near burn scars.

Evacuation Warnings are now in place for several recent burn areas from Thursday at 6PM through Sunday at 11AM. If you live near a burn scar, be packed and ready to leave quickly. Those with medical, mobility, or access needs should consider leaving before the rain begins.

During the storm, avoid driving, bring pets indoors, and call 911 only for life-threatening emergencies. All other storm-related issues (flooding, downed trees, road problems) should be reported to 311.

Download the LAIT911 mobile app for hyperlocal storm alerts in real time and visit https://app.lait911.org for more information on emergency evacuation warnings and alerts.

Stay safe, check on your neighbors, and prepare now.

🕯️ September 11, 2001 🕯️

Today we pause to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the countless first responders and everyday citizens who answered the call with courage and compassion.

We honor their memory, reflect on their sacrifice, and reaffirm our commitment to serve our community with the same spirit of unity that carried our nation through that day.

The 4th may be over, but fireworks and fire danger are still very real.

Our wildland crews are out this holiday weekend watching for flare-ups, smoldering brush, and illegal fireworks before they spark something worse.

If you see smoke or fire in the hills, call 911.
