Over the weekend, we had the important opportunity to speak at the Santa Clarita Valley Democrats' Fourth Annual Obama Awards. Los Angeles County Representative Eddie Alvarez gave an impassioned speech about the importance of being involved and building relationships in the communities our members live in, and how their work builds a stronger, more connected future for all of us. LA/OC Building & Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary Ernesto Medrano and Chris Hannan, President of the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, joined Xavier Becerra & hundreds of supporters last night in support of his campaign for Governor of California.

We’re proud to stand with Xavier Becerra and support his commitment to working families, good union jobs, and a stronger future for our state.

Behind every landmark project are the skilled union tradespeople who help bring big ideas to life.

As LA prepares for the FIFA World Cup, we recently visited SoFi Stadium to see the latest innovations and construction approaches our union members have been implementing just in time for kick-off. From world-class facilities to the next generation of infrastructure, union construction continues to set the standard for quality, safety, and craftsmanship across Southern California.

Today's North Hollywood to Pasadena Bus Rapid Transit groundbreaking was a pivotal moment for a project offering a sustainable east-west connection to jobs, schools, and services across both valleys. Executive Secretary Ernesto Medrano was joined by numerous community leaders at this morning's ceremony, including Iron Workers Business Representative Johnny Escobedo, LA County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger and Metro Los Angeles Board Member Ara Najarian.

Last week, Los Angeles City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez joined us for our monthly area meeting to give updates on his District and the work being done by our representatives citywide. Hugo is a champion for bold, community-driven policies, and we're glad to work with him as we continue to build Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council honors the memory of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

This Memorial Day, we remember their courage, their service and their lasting impact on the freedoms we hold today. We also recognize the veterans in the building trades whose continued dedication, discipline and leadership strengthen our unions and communities every day.

May 18-22 is Infrastructure Week, a time to recognize the projects, investments, and skilled workers building a stronger America.

Infrastructure investment delivers real returns nationally and for our communities across Southern California. The U.S. Department of Transportation estimates that every $1 billion invested in highway and bridge infrastructure supports at least 13,000 jobs across industries, from construction and manufacturing to logistics.

For the LA/OC Building Trades, is a reminder that every investment in infrastructure is also an investment in the skilled union workforce building our future.
