Every community needs places where history is preserved, stories are shared, and future generations can learn from those who came before them.

That is why we are honored to partner with the A C Bilbrew Library Black Resource Center for The Museum of Black Women and Girls: The Field of Beauty and Brilliance.

For many years, the Center has provided a welcoming space for education, cultural preservation, research, and community engagement. Through this partnership, we are helping ensure that the stories of Black women and girls are celebrated and accessible to all who visit.

Together, we are creating opportunities for our community to connect with the remarkable women whose leadership, courage, creativity, and contributions continue to shape California and beyond.

We are grateful for this partnership and the shared commitment to preserving our collective history.

The work doesn't stop with Juneteenth.

California Black Women's Collective Empowerment Institute is honored to have our President & CEO, Kellie Todd Griffin, participate in California State University, Dominguez Hills' featured Juneteenth conversation:

Beyond Juneteenth: From Recognition to Responsibility — What It Means to Be a Black-Serving Institution

This timely discussion brings together leaders from education, civic engagement, and community organizations to examine how institutions can move beyond symbolic recognition and create meaningful pathways for Black student success, community partnership, and long-term impact.

As advocates for Black women, families, and communities across California, we believe that leadership requires accountability, collaboration, and action. We look forward to contributing to this important conversation and advancing solutions that strengthen opportunity for future generations.

Stories are more than entertainment—they are a powerful way to preserve history, share knowledge, and strengthen community.

The Museum of Black Women and Girls Pop-Up highlights the experiences, achievements, and cultural contributions of Black women through storytelling, oral histories, and community engagement. Featured works such as Terry McMillan's It's Not All Downhill From Here help spark conversations about resilience, friendship, healing, and the enduring influence of Black women in our lives and communities.

By exploring stories that center Black women's experiences, we deepen our understanding of Black history, celebrate cultural legacy, and create space for future generations to learn, connect, and lead.

She used headlines to challenge injustice—and made history in the process.

For more than four decades, Charlotta Bass used her newspaper, the California Eagle, as a powerful tool for change. As one of California's most influential Black publishers, she fought for fair housing, civil rights, police accountability, and economic opportunity when many institutions refused to listen.

Her leadership extended far beyond journalism. In 1952, she became the first Black woman nominated for Vice President of the United States, breaking barriers and expanding what was possible for future generations of women in leadership.

Today, her story lives on in the HerStory Gallery at The Museum of California Black Women and Girls: A Field of Beauty and Brilliance—a celebration of the visionaries, trailblazers, and changemakers whose contributions helped shape California and our nation.

Because honoring Black women's history isn't just about looking back—it's about recognizing the foundation they built for us all. 🌸
