National Apprenticeship Week Spotlight: Walgreens and Mt. San Antonio College

During National Apprenticeship Week, the Los Angeles Regional Consortium is highlighting how apprenticeship programs connect classroom learning to real-world careers.

A strong example is the partnership between Walgreens and Mt. San Antonio College’s pharmacy technician program. Through this collaboration, students gain hands-on experience in retail pharmacy settings while building the skills needed to successfully enter the workforce.

Working with apprentices is very fulfilling. There’s something about watching somebody come in with new knowledge around their chosen career.” said Laurae Ross, Manager, Pharmacy and Retail Operations, Walgreens. “Apprentices tend to be better prepared to enter our job force, including gaining the skills that it takes to show up well for an interview, as well as learning the skills necessary to perform in our fast-paced environment.

📢 LARC Celebrates National Apprenticeship Week

In recognition of National Apprenticeship Week (April 26 through May 2), LARC is highlighting the impact of registered apprenticeship programs across the Los Angeles region.

These “earn and learn” opportunities connect education and industry, allowing participants to gain hands on experience, earn wages, build in demand skills, and create clear pathways to long term career success and economic mobility.

As the regional convener across 19 community colleges, LARC continues to expand equitable access to apprenticeship pathways in partnership with employers across high growth sectors.

Santa Monica College is a coastal powerhouse known for affordability, academic excellence, and one of the strongest transfer pipelines in the country.

In honor of National Apprenticeship Week, the Los Angeles Regional Consortium recognizes the impact of apprenticeships in building stronger pathways from education to career success across Los Angeles County.

Apprenticeship programs combine classroom instruction with paid, hands-on experience, giving students the opportunity to develop real skills, gain confidence, and step directly into the workforce with experience already behind them.

LARC works alongside colleges, employers, and workforce partners to expand access to these earn-and-learn opportunities and ensure more students can benefit from clear, supported career pathways.

As we kick off the week, we are proud to elevate the programs and partnerships that are strengthening our regional workforce and creating opportunity across industries.
