LARC was proud to support Glendale Unified School District during its two-day CTE professional development!

The two-day experience brought together GUSD’s CTE educators to strengthen pathway collaboration, explore new strategies, and discover ways to create engaging, career-connected learning experiences for students.

LARC K12 Pathway Coordinator Sabrina Ruiz had the opportunity to connect with educators, share practical applications for AI-powered workplace simulations, and support collaboration across pathways.

“Working alongside educators who are deeply committed to preparing students for college, careers, and the future of work is one of the most rewarding parts of my role,” Sabrina shared.

We’re grateful to the GUSD CTE team for welcoming LARC and for their continued commitment to strengthening pathways and creating meaningful opportunities for students.

🌟 LARC Employer Engagement Spotlight: Bridgette Nalty 🌟

Bridgette Nalty serves as an Employer Engagement Liaison, helping employers connect with our LA19 Colleges and identifying opportunities for collaboration that strengthen talent pipelines and support career pathways.

“Successful partnerships are built on shared goals, mutual value, and trust. They require strong, consistent communication, a willingness to listen and adapt, and a long-term commitment to working together.”

Bridgette also sees skills-based hiring as an important workforce trend, with employers increasingly focusing on the competencies candidates bring to the table, including both technical and interpersonal skills.

Outside of work, Bridgette enjoys spending time with family, hiking, exploring museums, attending art shows and cooking. She is also passionate about growing her creative and event planning business, where she gets to turn ideas into meaningful experiences. 🎨

"Yesterday’s Career Pathways Partnership Round 10 Regional Convening, “From Alignment to Action” was a powerful reminder of what is possible when our regional partners come together with a shared commitment to students. Thank you to Río Hondo College for hosting and for your leadership of this important regional project. After 10 years of success, we are excited to continue building on that foundation as we look ahead to Round 11.

Thank you to Alejandra Gonzales, Glendale Community College, and Pathway Coordinator Sabrina Ruiz-Emmons, for leading The Connection I Need an icebreaker and helping set the tone for a day centered on connection, collaboration, and action.

This regional funding allows us to intentionally connect our K–14 Career Pathways work through our 11 Pathway Coordinators and college leads across the . Yesterday’s agenda reflected that spirit of collaboration, from regional priorities and dual enrollment best practices to action planning, peer consultation, and concrete commitments for next steps.

A special thank you to Jacqueline de la Rosa, Los Angeles City College, and Marina Sais, Los Angeles Unified School District, for leading the Dual Enrollment presentation and highlighting the importance of intentional pathway development, strong team support, and working collaboratively to advance student success.

We also appreciate our panelists, Jacqueline de la Rosa, Marina Sais, Alicia Zambrano of Compton College, Michelle Arthur of El Camino College, and Dr. Karen Saysay of Los Angeles Community College District, for sharing their experiences, insights, and promising practices.

We are especially grateful to Dean Bridgette Hernandez for her leadership and support of this regional Core Initiative, and heartfelt thanks to Lea Martinez, Nane Zadouri, and Judy Fox for leading and organizing such an impactful, action-oriented day.

The observance dates back to 1968, with California formally establishing Native American Day as a state observance in 1998.

What will AI and data analytics education look like in California’s community colleges?

Help shape the answer at the Los Angeles Regional AI and Data Analytics Convening on December 1, 2026, at the Marriott Burbank Airport.

As one of eight regional convenings supporting California’s Vision 2030 initiative, the event brings together faculty, college leaders, curriculum leaders, Academic Senate representatives, and industry partners to:

Building opportunity through people and partnerships.

At last week’s Southern California Apprenticeship Network (SCAN) event at BioscienceL.A., Dr. Narineh Makijan, Assistant Vice President and Chair of the Los Angeles Regional Consortium (LARC), delivered opening remarks with a clear message:

“Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not. Our responsibility is to change that.”
Working across Community Colleges, LARC brings together education (TK-16), employers, workforce partners, and communities to connect learning and earning and advance economic mobility.

Dr. Makijan emphasized that expanding apprenticeship requires moving from programs to systems and from silos to alignment, creating clear entry points for employers and making education and employment opportunities easier for learners to access.

Hearing directly from apprentices and employers brought the impact of this work to life. The perspectives of participating organizations, colleges, specifically Jose Anaya, Dean El Camino College, and intermediaries also highlighted the coordination needed to build a system that serves our communities.

Thank you to SCAN and the South Bay Workforce Investment Board - SBWIB, Chris Cagle and Dr. Alex "Lexy" Davis, for convening this conversation, and to the partners turning shared commitment into opportunity.

“What will we do together?” is the question that carries this work forward.
