Five years ago we started gathering musicians, volunteers, and friends to care for the land together.

Since then we’ve planted thousands of native plants, restored land impacted by wildfire, and built a community rooted in music, joy, and restoration.

We recently captured this journey in a short documentary.

Here’s a glimpse.

📣Meet Leap Lab, our venue affected by the Mountain Fire in November 2024.
🌱Marcus Eriksen and Anna Cummins bring decades of experience in the sciences, museum education, and non-profit leadership to the founding of Leap Lab.
-Marcus Eriksen, PhD, Leap Lab Co-Founder. Growing up in Southern Louisiana, by age 15 Marcus had amassed a live collection of 11 snakes, 96 turtles and a small alligator into a backyard zoo. He’s since worked with the Audubon and LA zoos, and Los Angeles and Carnegie museums of natural history, and academically his masters and PhD were on exhibit design informed by evolutionary psychology. Add to that 30 years of digging dinosaurs and a massive collection of fossils for Leap Lab, as well as environmental research leading 20 ocean-crossing expeditions to research plastic pollution (5gyres.org). Today, it’s all about getting youth into the field to develop the heart and mind, and also build confidence, leadership and critical thinking, while opening career doors.
-Anna Cummins, Leap Lab Co-Founder, spent much of her early youth playing in Santa Monica stormdrains, beaches, and her backyard compost pile, experiences that sparked her interest in the land-sea connection. Anna Cummins received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University, and her Masters in International Environmental Policy from the Middlebury Institute for International Studies. She has spent the last 30 years working in sustainability and organizational leadership, in marine conservation, coastal watershed management, high school ecology education, and bilingual outreach.
Leap Lab, The Ventura County Science Center, aims to collaborate with local communities on critical issues of ecological resilience, through inspiring science-based actions rooted in intergenerational equity.
