CicLAvia is a free and recurring event that allows for the temporary closing of interconnected routes throughout the region, creating a web of public space in which Angelenos can walk, bike, exercise, socialize, celebrate, and explore new cultures and neighborhoods. Similar events occur in many other cities around the US like Portland, New York and San Francisco. The Bogóta ciclovía also has inspi

red programs in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Quito and Melbourne.

You Showed Up. You Made a Difference. Thank You.

Earlier this week, we asked for your help, and you delivered in a way that moved us deeply.

More than 3,000 pages of public comment. People showing up in person and by phone. You spoke about what open street events mean to you, to local businesses, to families, and to neighborhoods that deserve this kind of investment. And the Metro Board took notice.

Today, at the Metro Board meeting, our collective power made a difference. The Board voted unanimously to advance a motion to identify additional funding dedicated to open street events through 2028—keeping the conversation alive and reaffirming that open street events are a priority for the Los Angeles region.

We are especially grateful to LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, who has been a steadfast champion for open street events, and to Mayor Karen Bass for her leadership and commitment to keeping streets open and accessible to everyone.

The work to secure permanent funding for open street events isn't over. As Metro starts to identify what additional funding actually looks like, your continued engagement will matter. We'll be back with more information on how to stay involved.

We wouldn't be here without every single one of you who wrote, called, showed up, and spoke out.

Thank you,
Romel Pascual and the CicLAvia Team
Executive Director

🚨 ACT NOW: Open street events are at risk

We Need Your Voice

Metro is about to quietly end future funding for open street events. You can stop it if you act by Wednesday, July 22, at 5pm.

Why it matters: Open street events are for everyone. Cutting funding doesn't just put organizations like CicLAvia and open streets programs like ActiveSGV’s 626 Golden Streets/Active Streets at real risk. It erases opportunities for communities that don't otherwise get this kind of social infrastructure investment.

Submit written comments via email by 5pm Wednesday, July 22, and / or give public testimony in-person or via phone at 10am Thursday, July 23.

"People are yearning for a different way to come together, to experience our public spaces, and to move throughout the region. CicLAvia is the best celebration of that untapped energy—allowing our streets to be turned over to people to experience the joy and celebration of community coming together."

Check out our newest artist collab—Gary Baseman 🎨🐱🚲

Globally influential artist and local Angeleno Gary Baseman designed exclusive event shirts and buttons for CicLAvia—Meet the Hollywoods. They're available for purchase at our merch booths.

“I loved collaborating on the CicLAvia—Meet the Hollywoods event! I grew up riding my bike in my Hollywood adjacent neighborhood of Fairfax, and there was no two more Hollywood than my real little kittens, Beverly & Fairfax, to represent our open street ride from East to West Hollywood. I imagined on this magic day, all the Hollywood Stars that normally line the
boulevard, coming off their permanent homes on the sidewalk, putting on their rollerskates, gathering their skateboards and bikes, and joining in the neighborhood ride with the community.”

Join us THIS SUNDAY at CicLAvia—Meet the Hollywoods from 9am to 4pm!
