On Wednesday, August 12th, the ECHO-SGV Community Advisory Board (CAB) brought together community members and partner organizations  for a conversation focused on community safety.

The discussion centered on safety concerns that residents have shared through our Household Health Assessments, including traffic safety, neighborhood environment and infrastructure, property crime and prevention, homelessness and outreach, and community trust and access to help.

What made this conversation especially meaningful was hearing directly from community members. Residents shared their own experiences, personal anecdotes, and perspectives that connected to many of the concerns discussed. These stories helped deepen our understanding to the issues and highlighted how safety can look and feel different for people across our communities.

Together, we discussed the barriers residents may face when reporting concerns or seeking assistance, as well as resources, programs, partnerships, and other potential solutions that could help address these challenges. Our goal was not only to identify concerns, but to listen, learn from one another, and determine what ECHO-SGV and our partners can continue to follow up on.

A big thank you to SPIRITT Family Services, a longstanding pillar in El Monte and surrounding SGV communities, for generously providing the space to host this meeting. Their support helped create a welcoming environment where community members could come together, share their experiences, and participate in an important conversation about the safety and well-being of our neighborhoods. 💙

We are grateful to every community member and partner organization who took the time to participate and share their experiences. Community voices are essential to understanding the needs of our neighborhoods and working together toward meaningful solutions.

Thank you to everyone who continues to show up, share, and help shape a healthier and safer San Gabriel Valley. 💙

💚 July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month.

Mental health affects people of every race, ethnicity, and background. This awareness month highlights the importance of reducing barriers to mental health care and ensuring everyone has access to culturally responsive support.

Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Whether you’re checking in on yourself or supporting someone else, every conversation can make a difference.

Let’s work together to break the stigma and build healthier, more connected communities.
