California has taken historic action to protect healthcare access for transgender youth, but the work isn’t done.

A new federal rule will cut off Medicaid and CHIP funding for medically necessary care for transgender young people beginning October 13.

We’re calling on Governor Gavin Newsom to fight back by providing $10 million in emergency funding and working with EQCA and our partners to establish a state-only billing pathway to protect continued access to care.

We may be in a difficult moment, but last Tuesday showed us that our LGBTQ+ leaders and advocates are hungry to take the baton in the journey to full, lived LGBTQ+ equality.

Thank you to our speakers, attendees, and to Senator Laphonza Butler for joining us in conversation with our executive director, Tony Hoang. Our 2026 Leadership Summit was a reminder of what we fight for, and the strength we have when we join together.

JUST RELEASED: Our 2026 Safe and Supportive Schools Report Card is, to be frank, a mixed bag. While there are a selection of accomplishments to celebrate, too many California Unified School Districts are still falling short when it comes to protecting LGBTQ+ students and ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect. It's clear we've got the momentum to win decisively in the midterms — but ultimately, it comes down to how many people show up to vote.
