Peter’s life took an unexpected turn after suffering a major stroke that left the left side of his body unresponsive. Since then, he’s been working through an intense rehabilitation journey to regain mobility and independence.

With support from the Enabling Independence Program, Peter received essential equipment including a specialized wheelchair and custom orthotic support; tools that will help him safely move, rebuild strength, and stay connected to his community.

For Peter, independence means more than mobility, it means getting back to the moments that matter. To give towards the Enabling Independence Grant Program, visit us here: https://www.calrehabfoundation.org/ways-to-give/

From scholarship recipient to healthcare professional in the making.

Through our Career Connections Program, Mia took her first step toward a future in healthcare. After receiving a Cal Rehab Foundation scholarship, she gained hands-on experience working at California Rehabilitation Institute for a year. Today, she is continuing her journey by pursuing her RN degree.

Susan’s life changed in an instant after a heart attack led to a fall and spinal cord injury, leaving her quadriplegic. At 82, she now relies on assistance for nearly every daily task and had to close the home business she once ran.

Through the Enabling Independence Program, Susan received a specialized reclining shower chair—giving her the ability to safely shower in her own home again.

It’s a simple thing, but it makes a meaningful difference in her daily life.

Thank you to the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation for helping make this possible!

Christy is living with a progressive neurological condition that has significantly impacted her balance and safety at home. Everyday activities like using the bathroom or showering have become high-risk due to frequent falls.

Through the Enabling Independence Program, Christy received support toward a specialized wheelchair and a tilting shower/commode chair—equipment designed to keep her safe while easing the physical strain on her caregivers.

This support helps restore a sense of stability, dignity, and peace of mind for Christy and her family. To learn how to help others like Christy, visit us at https://www.calrehabfoundation.org/ways-to-give/

After a traumatic cycling accident, Derrek sustained a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Since then, he’s approached recovery with determination—treating rehab like a full-time job and staying focused on his goal to walk again.

Through the Enabling Independence Program, Derrek received an assisted mobility device designed to reduce strain on his shoulders and help him navigate daily life more comfortably.

We’re honored to support Derrek’s journey forward. Special thanks to the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation for their partnership in funding his grant and making this impact possible.

Every finish line tells a story.

For para athletes, it’s often a story of perseverance, grit, and overcoming challenges most of us will never fully understand. And it’s incredibly inspiring to witness.

But behind every athlete is a community that made it possible.

Our donors are a critical part of that story. Your support helps open doors, remove barriers, and create opportunities that truly change lives.

Join us in continuing that impact. 🔗 https://www.calrehabfoundation.org/ways-to-give/
