Yesterday's Israel Day Parade in New York City brought together thousands of participants and supporters to celebrate Israel's inception, history, and enduring connection to Jewish communities around the world. As one of the largest public expressions of solidarity with Israel in the United States, the annual event serves as a powerful reminder of the bonds that unite communities in support of Israel and the Jewish people.

This year's parade held particular significance as Jewish communities continue to navigate a period marked by rising antisemitism. The gathering offered an opportunity to demonstrate unity, resilience, and hope while celebrating the shared values and cultural heritage that connect supporters across generations.

Barbara Birch, Executive Vice President of Development at the Simon Wiesenthal Center, attended the parade and joined community leaders, advocates, and supporters for the occasion.

The event served as a reminder of the value of community, shared identity, and constructive engagement. The Simon Wiesenthal Center continues its work to combat antisemitism, promote human dignity, and foster greater understanding among people of all backgrounds, with the goal of creating a more tolerant, secure, and harmonious future for Jewish communities and their allies around the world.

You don’t have to be Jewish to stand with us this Jewish American Heritage Month. Read what our Board Chair, Dawn Aaron, wrote as she reflects on allyship, Holocaust remembrance, and why standing against antisemitism matters to us all:

"As I reflect this Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM), I find myself thinking not only about the history of the Jewish people, but also about the history of this organization and the role allyship continues to play in the future of Jewish life.

As Chair of the Board of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, I know personally that you don’t have to be Jewish to care deeply about Jewish life and challenge antisemitism this JAHM.

I was first introduced to the Center by my late husband, Roland. Decades ago, he traveled to Vienna to ask Simon Wiesenthal for permission to use his name for what would become the Simon Wiesenthal Center. What stayed with me then—and has stayed with me ever since—is the clarity of purpose behind it.

The Center was founded by those who understood the need for an organization grounded in education, memory, and action. Through my years on the Board, I have come to understand our mission in a very personal way, listening to Holocaust survivors share their experiences and witnessing how their willingness to speak, even after unimaginable loss, makes it impossible to ignore what happens when hatred is left unchallenged.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center has always brought together people from different backgrounds around a shared belief: that antisemitism, hatred, and intolerance affect all of us, and confronting them is a responsibility we share together.

That’s why I choose to be an ally, why I choose to support the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and what I choose to celebrate this Jewish American Heritage Month."

With gratitude,

Dawn Aaron

The Simon Wiesenthal Center unequivocally condemns the act of targeted violence against the Islamic Center of San Diego. An attack on a house of worship is an assault not only on our fellow Americans, but on the principles of pluralism and religious freedom that underpin a democratic society.

American Muslims, like all religious communities, should be afforded the right to worship, gather, and live their identities openly without fear of violence or intimidation. We stand in solidarity with the Muslim community of San Diego, in expressing our grief, outrage, and resolve against anti-Muslim bigotry and hate in all its forms.

Today, on National Museum Day, we take a moment to reflect on our history. The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) opened the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles on February 8, 1993, sixteen years after the SWC's founding in 1977.

Named in honor of the legendary Holocaust survivor and N**i hunter Simon Wiesenthal, we are grateful for his support for the SWC and the MOT. His enduring legacy of justice, remembrance, and education continues to inspire everything we do.

Through the Museum of Tolerance, we challenge visitors to confront antisemitism, bigotry, and hate, and use the lessons of the Holocaust to teach tolerance and inspire action. Since opening our doors, we have welcomed over 8 million visitors from around the world.

But our commitment to education does not stop at MOT. We are proud to have the Mobile Museums of Tolerance reaching communities in California, New York, Illinois, Florida, and Massachusetts, with more states coming soon, bringing these vital lessons directly to students and communities everywhere.

We continue to be leaders and innovators in the education space. While the technology may have changed, the mission hasn't: to use the lessons of the past to build a more tolerant tomorrow.

On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first Prime Minister, stood before a crowd in Tel Aviv and read aloud the nation's Declaration of Independence, officially proclaiming the establishment of a Jewish state. The proclamation was made on the afternoon of May 14 to honor the Sabbath, with the new state officially coming into existence at midnight—the exact moment the British Mandate over Palestine expired.

This moment showcased the resilience and determination of a people who had survived the darkest chapter in human history. The Holocaust had ended only three years prior, and yet here stood a nation built on memory, perseverance, and the unbreakable spirit of the Jewish people.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center honors 78 years of Israeli independence. We recognize David Ben-Gurion for his vision and leadership as Israel’s first Prime Minister and Defense Minister, and for the tireless political and organizational work that made that defining moment possible.

Jewish American Heritage Month is a time to honor the contributions and legacy of Jewish Americans, and legendary baseballer Sandy Koufax remains central to that story. In honor of JAHM, we are sharing the Jewish Major Leaguers Baseball Card Collection preserved in the Simon Wiesenthal Center Archives.

Sandy Koufax became an American icon when he chose to sit out Game One of the 1965 World Series to observe Yom Kippur. His decision made a statement that echoed far beyond baseball, showing generations of Jewish Americans that success in America doesn't require leaving faith and identity behind.

His story also reflects a broader legacy of Jewish athletes whose pride and contributions often went unrecognized. This unique collection is a complete set of 142 cards that honor every Jewish player in the history of the American Major League. After discovering that 42 Jewish Major Leaguers had never received personal baseball cards, Dr. Martin Abramowitz, President of Jewish Major Leaguers, Inc., created cards for each overlooked player, spanning more than 40 franchises and 29 teams.

This collection ensures these players continue to be remembered as American Jews in America’s Game.
