🩰 Let's take a moment to appreciate the vital role of ballet shoes in the world of dance! These delicate yet resilient footwear not only support dancers' movements but also help them achieve grace and precision. Unfortunately, ballet shoes can be quite costly, making it challenging for aspiring dancers to afford them. Let's come together and make a difference by donating to organizations that provide ballet shoes to young talents. Every contribution counts! 🙏💕 Link in our bio to see how you can vote.

Just last week, we had the incredible opportunity to celebrate our Executive Director, and Chief Financial Officer, ‘s baby shower!

It was a joyous occasion, not only because we could shower the expectant parents with love and well wishes, but also because we were able to gather with friends including Artistic Director, and his partner .lassakova our Artistic Advisor. It was a powerful reminder of where our organization started from and the exciting future ahead. Please help us by celebrating Chelsea and Domi!

✨Today we highlight the incredible Calvin Royal III who is a trailblazer in the ballet community and another example of how hard work, dedication, and the support of scholarships can lead to dreams coming true! He is the third Black dancer to be a principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre. We are amazed at all he has done and what he continues to do!

We appreciate your work, dedication, and how inspiring you are to the whole Dance In Color community.

In recent years, there has been a growing movement to make ballet clothing available in a wider range of skin tones to better represent the diversity of ballet dancers. Traditionally, ballet clothing has primarily been available in pink and beige shades, which often do not match the skin tones of dancers of color.

In response to this, several companies have started to offer ballet clothing in a wider range of colors, and hues that more closely match the skin tones of dancers from diverse backgrounds. Some of these companies include: Brown Ballet Shoes, Ballet Rosa, and Gaynor Minden.

This movement toward more inclusive ballet apparel is part of a larger effort to increase diversity and representation in the dance world. By offering clothing that is more inclusive, ballet companies and studios can help to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for dancers of all backgrounds.

With over 99% of our donations going directly to our scholars, we work to make sure their needs are covered beyond their classes.

That means:
🩰pointe shoes
👯‍♀️dance apparel
💃🏽private lessons, competition fees, and more!

Most pre-professional dancers will go through about 3 pairs of pointe shoes per month. That’s roughly $200-$400 a month for this one piece of their dance experience. If you feel inclined and/or inspired please take a look at our donation page in our bio. Every donation counts and is greatly appreciated.

The reality of how expensive pre-professional dance training can be is a huge driver for why we do what we do at Dance In Color. It is our mission to share, educate, and inspire this incredible artistic endeavor. Our goal is to remove the financial barrier of training for as many Black dancers as possible. We want more young Black dancers to have the accessibility to dance and to have the opportunity to take it to the next level, become professional dancers, and ultimately, change the face of dance.

This thermometer is a snapshot of what it takes to dance between tuition performance costs, housing, and more. Cost is an extraordinary barrier and affects the diversity of the art form.

Today DIC is featuring Tatiana Stevenson- a stunning up and coming ballet dancer who was recently promoted at Ballet West. In her early training Stevenson attended prestigious summer intensives such as; Dance Theater of Harlem, San Francisco Ballet, the Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell intensive and Pacific North West Ballet! After finishing her training with Dance Theater of Harlem, Stevenson joined Ballet West as a Trainee in 2018. She quickly joined Ballet West 2 in 2020 and was promoted to main company in 2021. She is a stunning dancer and definitely one to watch!
