Standout high school and college players and top prep and college coaches headline the 2027 class of the Southern California Basketball Hall of Fame (SCBBHOF). They will be honored on Sunday, August 22, 2027, at the Mission Hills Odyssey Restaurant overlooking Los Angeles along with the 2026 all-star induction class that was selected earlier.
Headlining 2027 honorees are former Los Angeles Lakers player and head coach Luke Walton, who starred in college at Arizona coming from San Diego. He becomes the second HOF son honored by the SCBBHOF with his father, the late Bill Walton, joining Marques and Kris Johnson. Other top players joining Luke Walton are former USC and Los Angeles ABA standout Mack Calvin, along with Stanford All-American and first round NBA draft pick Josh Childress. Another Stanford All-American and WNBA leader Olympia Scott (Richardson) is also part of the 2027 induction class. She is joined by two great women’s coaches Darlene May, the deceased HOF coach at Cal Poly Pomona and Harvard-Westlake California State Prep Champion Melissa Hearlihy.
Other HOF 2027 player inductees include California Mr. Basketball Darren Daye from Kennedy HS in Granada Hills, UCLA and the NBA, Bill Duffy, who starred at Damien HS and Santa Clara before becoming one of the top basketball sports agents, and Larry Hollyfield, who had the greatest six-year winning stretch in local basketball history winning California titles at Compton HS and Compton College, plus three NCAA’s at UCLA for John Wooden, while losing just two games.
Selected for Lifetime Service to Southern California basketball are Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame award winner and Los Angeles Lakers photographer Andrew Bernstein and 29-year professional, college and high school official Bill Spooner, who was a NBA referee for over 1500 games. He was one of the officials for the Kobe Bryant 81-point game.
The 2027 honorees join the 2026 SCBBHOF class of Doretha Conwell (Waitman), who was the two-time California Ms. Basketball for Locke HS, Willnett Crockett, who won titles at Narbonne HS and University of Connecticut and is currently the USC women’s basketball assistant coach, legendary Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coach Denny Crum, who led Louisville to two NCAA titles and played/coached for John Wooden, Ocean View High School CIF championship coach Jim Harris, and former Cleveland HS All-City and Long Beach State standout Lucious Harris.
Also in the 2026 class are three-time UCLA Final Four coach Ben Howland, who was a solid local guard at Cerritos, Fairfax two-time LA City Player of the Year, and Arizona All-American Chris Mills, Cal-Berkeley NCAA championship player and coach of NCAA playoff teams at USC, UOP, and San Jose State, Stan Morrison, four-time Bishop Montgomery HS champion, UCLA All-American and WNBA Champion Noelle Quinn, and Crenshaw two-time LA City Player of the Year and Syracuse All-American Stephen Thompson. Grassroots legend and Pangos Basketball President Dinos Trigonis is the 2026 SCBBHOF Lifetime Service selection.
“We have a tremendous group of former Southern California basketball players and coaches to honor for 2026 and 2027, plus three people that are well deserved for their lifetime service to the sport,” said Jeff Davis, President of the SCBBHOF. “We are also very excited to be moving the August 22, 2027, banquet to the San Fernando Valley at the famous Odyssey Restaurant, which we think will be an excellent venue for such a special event.”
