ICO Inspiring Connections Outdoors Angeles Chapter, led by Cassandra Singh and Kathy Stevens took Bryson elementary school kids out to the Waite Point Nature Preserve in San Pedro on May 27, 2026. The kids loved it , and had a great time building confidence on sometimes steep slopes. They visited the 1930s World War II bunkers and had fun there too.  We also gave the children seed pods to disperse their on the grounds, that only the special blue butterfly that only grows in San Pedro feeds on. So they got to be Nature Stewards for a day.

Here are some photos from the ICO Angeles Chapter annual Earth Day at Elysian Park near Dodger Stadium in downtown Los Angeles! Lugo and McKinley elementary schools participated and it was a grand day! Parachute play, inflatable earth globe play, Indian elders showing how to drum, hiking, arts and crafts, engineering lesson in making butterflies. It was a huge success, and the kids had so much fun. See for yourselves! Ann Salvador led the festivities, along with many Sierra Club Angeles Chapter ICO Inspiring Connections Outdoors  volunteers, including Anne McNally, Kathy Stevens, Monroe Maxwell, Dennis Miderman, Grazia Caroselli, Julie Garner, Shihy Chen, Erlinda Cortez and Firoza Jhabvala.

The volunteer hiking guides for Angeles Sierra Club ICO, Inspiring Connections Outdoors group, leaders Ann Salvador,  Ann McNally and
hiking guide Grazia Caroselli took McKinley elementary school from Compton, their teachers and other children on a cliff hike to the Point Vicente interpretational whale watching Center and lighthouse. Cliff walks, so much fun in Palos Verdes, California.

For 40 plus years, we’ve been connecting youth across LA and Orange Counties with the outdoors and 2024-2025 has been one of our biggest years yet!

What we’ve accomplished
-85 outings in 2024 and 49 more in early 2025
-Partnerships with amazing organizations like LAMI, Bolsa Chica Land Trust, White Point, Deb’s Park, Madrona Marsh and COBRA
-New programs from day sails to mountain biking
-Developing our Inspiring Outdoors (ILO) program to empower teens with skills, confidence and a lifelong love of nature

Why we need your help:
-We’re 100% volunteer-run, but the cost keep rising-especially transportation (a single bus can cost $700+). To keep offering life-changing outdoors experiences, we’re raising funds toward our $90,000 annual budget.

Donations help cover buses, food, equipment, camp fees and program needs for the youth we serve.
