Broad – the name behind the Broad art museum in downtown – remains among the most recognizable names in Los Angeles. With a fortune largely inherited from her late husband, Eli, she has continued the couple’s efforts to bolster arts and education programming. The Broad museum is in the midst of a $100 million upgrade that will add 55,000 square feet of space by 2028. Eli Broad amassed his wealth through his two companies, KB Home (which went public) and SunAmerica (which he sold to AIG in 1999 for $18 billion). He and his wife built up a collection of art now reportedly worth in excess of $2 billion. Edythe Broad is a signee to the Giving Pledge – which tasks participants with giving away 75% of their wealth.

Charitable Giving: $1.15 million to the News Literacy Project (2024); $5 million to ExpandLA (2023-26); $2 million to Howard University (2022) Art Collection: Broad’s collection of art – assembled throughout the past 50 years – on display at The Broad museum includes works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Bradford and Andy Warhol.

Edythe Broad has a net worth of $11 billion
