Brothers and Sisters,
On behalf of the ILWU Southern California District Council, representing the 16 ILWU Locals and affiliates in Southern California, we are proud to endorse Mayor Karen Bass for reelection as Mayor of Los Angeles.
Mayor Bass has spent her career standing with working families, labor, and communities that too often go unheard. As Mayor of Los Angeles, she has worked to bring people together, address homelessness, improve public safety, protect good jobs, and move the city forward during difficult times.
For ILWU members, the Port of Los Angeles is not just an economic engine; it is where our members work, where our families depend on good union jobs, and where decisions made at City Hall directly affect our future.
We need leadership that understands the importance of the port, respects organized labor, and is willing to listen to the concerns of working people.
Mayor Bass stood with the ILWU in pushing back against the South Coast AQMD's proposed Indirect Source Rule. She understood that while we all support cleaning the air and reducing emissions at the ports, it must be done in a way that protects good union jobs, keeps cargo moving through Los Angeles, and does not push ships to the East Coast or Gulf Coast through dirtier ports. Her leadership helped move the discussion toward a cooperative agreement that will clean the ports without limiting cargo, harming workers, or weakening the Port of Los Angeles.
Mayor Bass has shown that she understands the value of labor and the importance of protecting middle-clas jobs in Los Angeles. Her experience, steady leadership, and commitment to working families make her the rigt choice to continue leading the city.
