Thank you to the hosting committee for bringing Harbor City stakeholders together to meet our next L.A. City Attorney, Marissa Roy. A special thank you to Sister and ILWU Local 13 longshore worker, Teresa Trujillo, (SCDC Delegate) for graciously opening up her home and voicing her solidarity and support, along with her welcoming remarks to the candidate. We know Marissa Roy, as the next L.A. City Attorney, will continuously build genuine allyship with Harbor Area residents and advocate for everyday working people in L.A. City Hall. Thank you to the hosting committee for bringing Wilmington residents together to meet our next L.A. City Attorney, Marissa Roy at Hojas Tea House. A special thank you to Sister Irene Huerta for voicing her passion for the Heart of the Harbor, the need for continuous visibility for Wilmington, and for her welcoming remarks to the candidate. Members from various ILWU Locals and auxiliaries attended, along with educators from United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA), Banning High School alumni, retirees, and stakeholders to listen to Marissa Roy’s vision for our neighborhood and field questions from the audience. We know Marissa Roy, as our next L.A. City Attorney, will continue to build sincere inroads with Harbor Area residents, be proactive with constituent needs, and uplift our working families in L.A. City Hall. Volunteer by door knocking, phone banking, contributing, or hosting a meet and greet and make sure to vote for Marissa Roy by Tuesday, November 3rd. As you may know, the Port of Long Beach (POLB) recently released a Notice of Preparation and Initial Study to seek input on the scope and content of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the proposed Pier T (TTI/LB 140) marine Terminal Redevelopment Project. The initial study describes the proposed project and provides an initial evaluation of the Project’s potential environmental impacts.

If you are interested in providing input on the proposed Pier T Marine Terminal
Redevelopment Project, you may do so in two (2) ways:

1. Written comments may be submitted by Monday, August 17, 2026, until 4:00 p.m. to: Ms. Renee Moilanen, Director of Environmental Planning, Port of Long Beach, electronically via email to [email protected], by U.S. Mail or in-person to Port of Long Beach, 415 W. Ocean Blvd., 7h Floor, Long�Beach, CA 90802
2. The Port will host a virtual scoping meeting on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. during which an overview of the proposed Project and the environmental review process will be provided. Members of the public will have an opportunity to provide comments.

Happy Birthday Harry Bridges! 🎂

Born on this day in 1901 in Melbourne, Australia, Harry was one of the key organizers working underground for years to build a genuine union of longshore workers on the Pacific Coast. His efforts culminated in the 1934 West Coast Waterfront Strike and soon after in 1937 he helped found a new union the ILWU.

Thank you to our President Mickey Chavez, ILWU Southern California District Council (SCDC), Southern California Regional Director Cris Sogliuzzo, Inlandboatmen’s Union (IBU), Vice-President Alexxa Esparza, ILWU Local 56, & Secretary-Treasurer Myka McDaniel, ILWU Local 56 for hosting and convening such a successful San Pedro meet and greet with our next L.A. City Attorney, Marissa Roy. Members from Locals 13, 94, IBU, and 56 joined, along with San Pedro community leaders who heard Marissa’s message about why she’s running.
