The Dodger Stadium Traffic Study has started! PLEASE everyone, fill out the survey by Monday, July 13, so that LADOT and all of the decision makers know that we DON'T want an overpriced and ill-conceived gondola. What we need are improvements to pedestrian and bike access and also an expanded and improved Dodger Stadium Express bus system, similar to the Hollywood Bowl bus system with park and ride locations throughout LA County that gives folks a one-seat ride to their event! Gondolas are ill-equipped to handle mega-event crowds, and Frank McCourt's boondoggle would do too much damage to our neighborhoods and LA State Historic Park, while also simply pushing the traffic problems from one area to another, turning Chinatown into Dodger Stadium's parking lot.

For more info and to take the survey, visit https://ladot.lacity.gov/dodger-stadium.

It seems to be the summer (or almost summer) of surveys. The Elysian Park Master Plan is getting an update, and LA's Department of Recreation and Parks wants your feedback.

Although the proposed gondola to Dodger Stadium doesn't fall within the boundaries of Elysian Park, McCourt's people have long touted the gondola as a way to open up access to Elysian Park. To us, this makes very little sense because the gondola would only take people to the far eastern edge of the Dodger Stadium parking lots, and Elysian Park is a large, sprawling, and hilly park. The gondola would not get anyone close to the main recreation areas in the park. There's also the pesky problem of the lack of a funding plan for the gondola. The proponents have never said how much they would charge folks to ride it to access Elysian Park -- just that it would be free for people going to Dodgers games.

So please take the survey and tell them NO GONDOLA, no way, no how. It would not improve access to Elysian Park!

Myth: Most people support the Dodger Stadium gondola project. It's just a vocal minority that's against it.

This myth, which is perpetuated by the gondola lobbyists, is easy to disprove. Just look at what all of the candidates for LA City Council District 1 (which is where most of the LA ART gondola project would be located) have said. They have all publicly stated their opposition to the gondola project, except for one, Raul Claros who said, "I support the public process." NONE of the candidates openly said they support the gondola because everyone knows it's a deeply unpopular project. It's only popular among those who think they will make money on it and those who are only hearing about it for the first time and think the idea is cool without knowing anything of the details. The gondola pushers are just trying to create an alternate universe in which gondolas are the magical solution for our transit problems. The more people learn about the gondola project, the more they hate it.

This message is especially for Governor Gavin Newsom, , and Los Angeles State Historic Park. Listen to the locals!

What is your stance on the gondola?

Hernandez: "At every single moment, I have been standing against the gondola."
Calanche: "I'm still against it, but it's not a priority I'm focused on because it may or may not happen."
Claros: "I support the public process."
Grande: "The people who that it affected most, don't want it... I'm gonna go ahead and take the neighborhood's word for it."
Robledo: "I also oppose the gondola... I haven't spoken to one person who supports the gondola. People are really against it."

Frank McCourt's LA ART gondola pushers like to say that the gondola to Dodger Stadium wouldn't affect Clockshop's Kite Festival at Los Angeles State Historic Park because the kite festival is only on the northern half of the park, and the gondola would only over the southern half. That's a huge myth! Every year, the kite festival grows and people are looking for every inch of open space, including the hill on the southern end of the park, which the gondola would fly only 26ft over. We aren't giving up an inch of our public land to a billionaire real estate speculator, and neither should California State Parks if they really care about our being responsible stewards of our park land! .

California State Parks' public comment website is not only glitchy and illegal from an ADA-compliance standpoint, it's extremely biased in favor of the gondola, and AGAINST protecting our existing trees in Los Angeles State Historic Park .

It's not too late to tell State Parks, which has decision-making authority over the gondola project to reject it, and to also stop doing favors for billionaire developers like Frank McCourt, who isn't even planning to pay for the gondola.

Send an email to [email protected] by June 5, 2026, and tell them we want the "NO ACTION/NO GONDOLA" option. They must reject all of the options that would allow our park to be invaded by an ill-conceived gondola. Never should they allow scores of large mature trees to be ripped out of our park for this boondoggle, only to be replaced by dwarf trees that would take at least a decade to grow to what they're showing in their images, if ever.

On Friday afternoon, right before the Memorial Day holiday, California State Parks announced that they were extending the public comment period for the gondola options in Los Angeles State Historic Park. Now we have until June 5th, 2026 to comment and tell them we want NO GONDOLA at LA State Historic Park! But did CA State Parks actually fix their glitchy and illegal, ADA-noncompliant website? We tried navigating it with a screenreader to find out.

They answer is a NO. Also, you gotta love the Spanish translation through the screenreader. It's as if (or because) the screenreader doesn't know that the Spanish text is in Spanish and not English.

If you haven't submitted comments yet, or just want to submit another one, visit our friends at FriendsOfLASHP.org for a great guide on how to do that. Or email [email protected]. Tell CA State Parks to stop hiding behind their glitchy website and hold in-person public meetings.

Still basking in the glow of Clockshop's Kite Festival at Los Angeles State Historic Park. Did you know that the Kite Festival began as a way to demonstrate the value of the open skies above our park, in response to and in protest against Frank McCourt's proposed LA ART gondola to Dodger Stadium?

The kite festival gets bigger every year, with 10,000 people attending this year, spreading out not only on the northern half of the park, but also down to the south lawn, where the gondola would fly less than 26ft over greenspace, if approved.

Please continue to share our fight with everyone you know. The commissioners, who are the next decision makers on this project, need to know how important it is to keep billionaire developers out of our cherished open space!

Thanks to everyone who submitted public comments to California State Parks against the options they are considering to allow Frank McCourt's horrible gondola to invade LA State Historic Park. Whether you made your voice heard using California State Parks' defective and maze-like online public comment portal, or you expressed yourself directly through email, you helped reinforce the need to protect our great park from the greed of a billionaire real estate developer.

On Monday, Stop The Gondola held a press conference, under the shade of several of the trees at LA State Historic Park that would be killed for the gondola, to highlight how objectively defective and inaccessible CA State Park's virtual open house and public comment platform were. It was so defective that it was actually illegal under the Americans with Disabilities Act according to an expert who reviewed the website for us. Whether State Parks heeds our calls to take corrective action and reopen the public comment period, we've called them out and documented the shameful betrayal of our communities with this completely biased and compromised virtual process that they've foisted on us. Only time will tell if CA State Parks and the commissioners are going to keep towing the line for corporate interests at the behest of Governor Gavin Newsom, who we've heard supports the gondola, even though he's never made a public statement about it. TBD, but we'll keep fighting and speaking up for our rights.
