FRIDAY DECEMBER 4TH at 9am is the next CA State Park and Recreation Commission meeting. Getting the Commissioners to vote NO at this meeting on the proposed LA ART gondola that would destroy LA State Historic Park is our best chance to defeat this horrible project once and for all. Your involvement is extremely vital right now. If you can, please save the date, and sign this pledge to protect our greenspace and our historic communities!

The meeting will have public comment both in-person and via Zoom. We will share details on the meeting, including the physical location, when they become available. Typically CA State Parks announces the location at least 1 month in advance.

The pledge card can be printed, signed, and dropped off to us at any of our tabling events (such as our weekly tabling at the LA River Farmers' Market on Thursdays). We also have an online version of the pledge card at bit.ly/STG-pledgecard or via the QR code.

We don't have to worry about McCourt declaring bankruptcy on the gondola anymore because he donated the project to a brand new nonprofit and made them responsible for funding it. Classic billionaire move. But nothing else has changed. After 8 years, there is still no funding plan for this greenwashing gondola.

This boondoggle should have been stopped years ago by people like Mayor Karen Bass /Karen Bass and Hilda Solis . But spines are hard to grow when you're too busy putting up a phony list of community benefits. This has been a huge collective waste of our time, and is still being aided and abetted by Governor Gavin Newsom / Gavin Newsom as the project goes to the for approvals.

Gondola supporters sometimes talk about fans paying for the gondola through a surcharge on game tickets or parking. Doesn't that sound like the last thing Dodgers fans would want to do? Pay into McCourt's idiotic gondola project that would steal public land, wipe out hundreds of trees and invade the neighborhoods and parks around Dodger Stadium -- all to benefit parking lot Frank's development dreams?

Why would the gondola be bad for LA? Here are three reasons...
The proposed gondola would cut down trees, likely require taxpayer money, and pose a financial risk to the city considering billionaire Frank McCourt bankrupted the LA Dodgers. LA doesn't need more of that.

There is a literal mini-forest at the entrance of LA State Historic Park -- steps away from the Metro A Line station -- that would be ripped out for the gondola. We don't need empty promises about the developer replacing trees 4 to 1. There's been no plan for the types of trees that would be planted or where they would all go, except a few images showing that replacement trees would be much much smaller, even if you wait 10 or 15 years for them to grow.

Dodgers game this Saturday, 1pm is expected to be 100 degrees at start time. Would it be worse sitting under the blazing sun, or stuck in a gondola cabin with no operate windows and inadequate or non-existent "air conditioning"?

LA ART gondola lobbyists pretend that air conditioning in gondolas is already a solved problem, but it's complete BS. And public transit gondolas, which is what they are claiming the LAART would be because it they want to run it 18 hours per day every day, are an even tougher challenge. There are ZERO public transit gondolas in the world that have actual A/C. What McCourt wants is to get this gondola approved to unlock development rights on his land around Dodger Stadium. Nevermind any of the logistics or feasibility of the actual project. Who cares if it ever gets built or actually works.

There are 3 gondola systems in the world that have ever had some sort of air conditioning in the cabins: Wynn Skycab in China (Macau), Horto in Brazil, and Muttersbergbahn in Austria. They are all tourist gondolas that run only for up to 8.5 hours per day. One only runs after 4pm.

Horto in Brazil is a tourist gondola. Runs Wednesday through Sunday, only 8.5 hrs per day, 8am-4:30pm. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Many Google reviews saying it's still hot inside and that they don't turn on the air conditioning until after 11am.

The Muttersbergbahn gondola in Austria has experimented with an "ice cabin" during summer months, but their standard cabins don't have air conditioning, just ventilation. The system also is 4000+ ft above sea level. Natural cooling at higher elevation. Operates only 8 hrs per day, 9am-5pm.

December 4th at 9am is when the CA State Parks Commission is planning to hold their meeting to vote on whether to give away our public land and airspace at LA State Historic Park to Frank McCourt's ridiculous LAART gondola. That's more than 2 months away, but NOW is the time to SAVE THE DATE for what could be an all-day meeting, both in-person and via Zoom!

October will be all about getting out the vote for the midterm elections. After November 3rd, votes will still need to be counted from mail-in ballots, and tallies updated for days, if not weeks. And then before you know it, it will be Thanksgiving weekend. The FRIDAY after Thanksgiving weekend is the CA State Parks vote on the gondola, which could effectively kill the project because THEY HAVE NEVER proposed a route that DIDN'T go through the park. The plan has always been to use our beautiful park as a pit stop on the way to Dodger Stadium, and a short cut for this billionaire's greenwashing boondoggle.

Here is the very strong community impact statement that was approved by the Rampart Village Neighborhood Council last week against the horrible LA ART gondola project! More and more communities are coming out against this ridiculous greenwashing gondola to Dodger Stadium. On December 4th, we need the California State Parks Commissioners, who were all appointed by Gavin Newsom, to say NO to Frank McCourt, and NO to giving away our precious public park land to a billionaire's harebrained gondola project, which he's not even paying for!

Stop The Gondola was busy last week! We presented at the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council and the Rampart Village Neighborhood Council, both of which approved Community Impact Statements against the horrible LA ART gondola project! We did our regular weekly tabling at the LA River Farmers Market at LA State Historic Park. And we also tabled at the Frogtown Artwalk, which was basically non-stop talking to folks who didn't know about the gondola, and collecting petition signatures! It's all hands on deck until December 4th when the CA State Parks Commissioners are set to vote on this project. This is our big chance to kill the project once and for all!

SAVE THE DATE - Friday, December 4, 2026 is when the CA State Parks commissioners are planning to vote on the gondola project in LA State Historic Park. Before they do that, they are expected to visit the park in a public tour on Thursday, December 3rd. This video from 3 years ago shows what the entrance of the park might look like when they visit. These trees, just a few of the 81 trees that would be cut down for a billionaire's unfunded and ill-conceived gondola, will probably still have their leaves. This is in stark contrast to all of the biased images CA State Parks used to solicit public comment a few months ago, which only showed these trees in their dormant state, without leaves.

If you're tired of fighting this ridiculous and harmful project, please show up on one or both days if you can, with priority for December 4th because this our chance to finally STOP THE GONDOLA ONCE AND FOR ALL. We'll have more updates in the coming months.
