A powerful letter from the San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians reaffirming their opposition to the LA ART gondola project and urging the California State Park and Recreation Commission to NOT approve the general plan amendment for LA State Historic Park that would facilitate it.

Meanwhile, we hear that the shameless Governor Newsom is doing the bidding of big campaign contributors and pressuring his appointed state parks commissioners to approve Frank McCourt's overpriced tourist gimmick on our public park land. If there's any case when Trump's nickname for him works, it's this. When will he realize that he's NEVER GOING TO BE PRESIDENT because of scummy, swampy stuff like this!?

We got info that the neighborhood council that represents Chinatown and the area of the gondola project isn't going to have the gondola on the agenda for the August 24th meeting. Seems that the board members are still getting legal advice about conflict of interest. So we think it will be on the agenda for the September 28th meeting.

Also, it's still uncertain whether they will honor the request for presentations from both Stop The Gondola and LA ART/ZET. At the very least, shouldn't the developer show up to provide updates and answer questions? If there are no updates, why would the neighborhood council even consider voting on it again, when just two years ago HCNNC voted to oppose the project? What has changed, other than LA ART wanting more than ever to create a false narrative about community support for the project?

In the meantime, please save Monday, September 28th for the HCNNC meeting at 5pm, and also continue to save October 28th and 29th for the California State Park and Commission meeting, which will happen during the day. The State Park Commission meeting is still the top priority because they have the power to actually stop the project. And please stay tuned for updates!

Follow the money. LAist reports that Frank McCourt's real estate company is one of the big spenders in the mayor's election, donating $25,000 to a pro-Bass committee. "McCourt co-owns the parking lots around Dodger Stadium and has been seeking approvals from the L.A. Metro board — which Bass serves on and now chairs — for a controversial gondola project."

Has Nithya Raman taken a position on the controverial gondola? We haven't heard anything definitive yet, but that would be a good question to ask at an upcoming candidate forum...

Did you see the Stop The Gondola flag flying high during Riverfest! Thanks to kite master John Perez and his colleague David for making this happen! The land and the air over LA State Historic Park belong to the people, not to billionaire real estate speculators like Frank McCourt or his horrible LA ART gondola to Dodger Stadium! True story: Yesterday at the first Elysian Park Master Plan Community Workshop, during the Q&A and comments period, community members shared concerns, some of them about the Dodgers organization, how involved the Dodgers are in the master plan process, and whether or not they should take more of a role in it. A resident in the workshop advised that if folks want the Dodgers to be more involved or want to share their concerns with them, they should attend the Dodgers' community meetings, and that the Dodgers' community liaison is actually very responsive when residents bring up problems in the neighborhood due to people attending Dodgers events.

And then the next thing she said was "but the most important thing is NO GONDOLA." There was loud applause from the room, the loudest of the night. It's always nice to see this organic reaction at an in-person event for which we didn't put out a call for STG supporters to attend.

So even residents who feel like the Dodgers (as of now) are actually being pretty good neighbors are against the gondola!

Previous to that comment, the gondola wasn't really mentioned. But the big elephant in the room was what the Dodgers plans are in the long term for their property. How would that impact Elysian Park? According to the team who is leading the master plan process, the Dodgers still claim that no development is planned on the parking lots. Of course that's what they would say. TBD.

It's hard to believe it was a month ago that a bunch of us drove up to Santa Cruz to attend the CA State Park and Recreation Commission meeting! On the way there and back, we stopped in Solvang and Salinas, two historic cities that also have no need for a ridiculous gondola.

Sometimes you have to have a little fun while fighting against a billionaire and the corrupt system of enablers (former Mayor Eric Garcetti, Mayor Bass, Hilda Solis, and others) that has allowed the LA ART gondola project to continue this far in the approvals process. This is despite the fact that the McCourt's LA ART gondola team has never provided a funding plan, a feasibility study, nor a business case analysis for this private project that wants to take our public land and airspace. Let's hope that this October, the CA State Park Commissioners won't join the long list of those who have enabled billionaires with harebrained ideas.

We are honored to be tabling again at Friends of the Los Angeles River's Riverfest event! Join us for this free family-friendly event as we share in the splendor of LA State Historic Park while fighting against Frank McCourt's ridiculous LA ART gondola. That's the gondola that would ruin the park's skylines, fly 5-ton cabins less than 26ft over people's heads as often as every 12 seconds, cut down 81 trees at the park (hundreds over the entire route), and replace all of the large trees at the entrance of the park with a 98ft tall gondola station and its noisy machinery. Get updates, play *games*, bring your friends and neighbors!
