We were all moved this morning at the 9th Annual Garifuna Survival Day Mass when Dr Joycelin Palacio-Cayetano, PhD took us on a journey with our exiled descendants.

COLLEGE BOUND

Young adults around the world began their journey for a better future this fall. But we couldnโ€™t help but notice that at the prestigious Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia two Garinagu men decided to embark on this journey together.

Meet Elijah Flores (L) and KeiShaun Mortis (R). Both boys attended Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California then opted to become roommates at Morehouse.

First, letโ€™s thank parents Nick and Kamali Flores, and parents Mary Garcia and Dean โ€˜Jahโ€™ Flores on a job well done. Then letโ€™s congratulate the boys, wish them well, and let them know that the village wholeheartedly supports them.

Letโ€™s also, congratulate all the other Garinagu boys and girls around the world that are starting their journey. The fabric our community depends on their success.
